The Midtown Men Come to MPAC, 6/7

In his return to the New York City nightlife scene, Michael Longoria, best known for his star turn as Frankie Valli in the Tony Award Winning Broadway musical Jersey Boys, offers a free concert in his favorite part of town. The concert will feature Longoria's renditions of hits by contemporary pop artists such as Rihanna, Fun!, and Gavin DeGraw, as well as the debut of original songs from Longoria's upcoming song writing project. Winners Announced for 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition

Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) have announced that Thembisile Gxuluwe from West Mifflin Area High School near Pittsburgh has won first place at the 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition held on Monday, May 6th at at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). Pablo Lopez from Los Angeles was the runner-up, and an honorable mention went to Branndin Phillips-Laramorefrom Chicago. The event, which was free and open to the public, featured high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright. Broadway Scenic Designer Robert Brill Named La Jolla Playhouse's First Artist-in-Residence

La Jolla Playhouse announced today that nationally-renowned scenic designer Robert Brill has been named the theatre's inaugural Artist-in-Residence. This new, multi-month residency program, supported in part by a generous donation from Playhouse Director Emeritus Des McAnuff, is designed to give artists the freedom to focus on their ongoing body of work while becoming fully integrated into all aspects of the institution, from the stage to the boardroom to the classroom. In addition to designing the sets for His GirlFriday and Sideways this season, Brill will participate in the Playhouse's artistic planning, education and outreach activities, lead master classes at UC Dan Diego and serve as a community liaison for arts advocacy in San Diego, among other Playhouse activities. Megan Hilty and Aaron Lazar Headline Revised CAN-CAN Reading, Aiming for Broadway in 2014

Producer Jonathan Burrows has announced that Megan Hilty and Aaron Lazar will star in a staged reading of his Broadway-bound revival of the Cole Porter musical Can-Can. Jeff Calhoun to Direct Noah Racey's PULSE Musical at Florida's Asolo Rep

Extending this season's hot streak of productions that make bold artistic statements, Asolo Repertory Theatre will present Noah Racey's Pulse. A song and dance celebration that harkens back to the golden age of hoofing, Pulse is written, conceived, and choreographed by Broadway song and dance man Noah Racey in collaboration with Broadway director and two-time Tony Award nominee Jeff Calhoun. Pulse opens on Thursday, May 23 with an 8 p.m. curtain. Opening night will be preceded by two preview performances on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. and May 22 at 8 p.m. The show runs through June 16, 2013 in Asolo Rep's Mertz Theatre located in The FSU Center for the Performing Arts. Miss NY, ANNIE Orphans and Ryan Kasprzak Set for 5/13 Benefit for West Side YMCA

The West Side YMCA's Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater will present its 3rd annual benefit cabaret, Little Theater, Big Dreams on Monday May 13th at 7PM. The Off-Broadway hidden gem, located inside the historic West Side Y, will play host to powerful performances from Broadway's brightest up-and-coming stars alongside their own Kids Company, a group of young (6-14 year old) triple-threats-in-training.
