Great News For South Florida Arts-Related Businesses

Recently, Americans for the Arts released the 2009 Creative Industries Report, which offers a research-based approach to understanding the scope and economic importance of the arts. Today, Broward County is home to 5,660 arts-related businesses-reflecting an increase of 900 small entrepreneurial businesses over 2008. In total, these businesses employ almost 21,000 people-creating an additional 400 jobs in the last year-as documented by Dun and Bradstreet, the most comprehensive and trusted source for business information in the U.S. (more...)

After a 48 year absence, Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) will present the first new Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie as the inaugural production of the new Henry Miller's Theatre (124 West 43rd Street) beginning Thursday, September 10th, 2009 with an official opening on Thursday, October 15th, 2009. 2009 Arts Teacher Of The Year Award

Susan Anderson holds a bachelor of fine arts in education/ceramics from Florida Atlantic University; is a studio art major from the School of Visual Arts in New York City; and is board certified in Early Adolescence through Young Adult Art with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She has taught at J.P. Taravella High School for more than 15 years and has worked as a summer instructor with art programs at both the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, Nova Southeastern University and the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Playwrights Horizons & Vineyard Theatre Join to Develop New Musical 'THE BURNT PART BOYS'

THE BURNT PART BOYS -- a new musical by Mariana Elder (book), Nathan Tysen (lyrics) and Chris Miller (music), directed by Erica Schmidt ('Humor Abuse') -- will have an innovative production and development schedule on its way to an Off-Broadway premiere in the spring of 2010 when it will be presented as a co-production by Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director, Tim Sanford; Managing Director, Leslie Marcus) and the Vineyard Theatre (Artistic Director, Douglas Aibel; Executive Director, Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell) at Playwrights Horizons, it has been announced by both non-profit theaters.
