Leon Fleisher Announces Updated Program For 90th Birthday Celebration At Carnegie Hall

Renowned pianist and pedagogue Leon Fleisher has updated the program for his celebratory 90th birthday recital at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall to include works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Mozart, along with two selections by Leon Kirchner. Joining Mr. Fleisher on stage are notable friends and colleagues, Jonathan Biss and Yefim Bronfman, whom Mr. Fleisher has mentored throughout his illustrious career. Mr. Fleisher will also be joined by special guests the Dover Quartet and Rachel Calin on bass. The evening's revised program reflects the repertoire that Mr. Fleisher wished to put forth for this celebratory occasion. Full program information is listed below.

20-year old pianist Thomas Nickell, an artist with 'an ever-increasing reputation as a player's player and composer' (Litchfield Live, 23 Jul 2017) will perform in solo recital at New York's downtown venue, SubCulture (45 Bleecker Street, Downstairs, New York, NY 10012) today evening, November 15, 2018 at 7:30 pm, presented by Alexander & Buono International. The program, entitled Impromptus and Meditations, will include works by Scriabin, Schubert, Messiaen, and Liszt; Mr. Nickell will also give the premiere of two of his own original compositions.

Once again, the whispers, thunder and wonders of the Great Auditorium Pipe Organ will ring out during The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association (OGCMA)'s Free Organ Recital Series, a signature part of its summer-long program of family entertainment. OGCMA's Pipe Organ is among the largest in the world and is the heart-beat of this Christian Victorian resort on the Jersey Shore. The historic 11,000-pipe instrument was built and installed in 1908 with original design innovations that became standard elements still extant in modern organ construction. It is made of over 40,000 feet of California No. 1 Sugar Pine and weighs 20-25 tons. In its illustrious 109-year history, this remarkable instrument has been played by numerous distinguished organists, including Will C. MacFarlane, Clarence Kohlman, Josephine Eddowes, Harold Fix, Clarence Reynolds, Beverly Davis, Jon Quinn, and Robert Carwithin. Young pianist Thomas Nickell, an artist with 'an ever-increasing reputation as a player's player and composer' (Litchfield Live, 23 Jul 2017) will perform as soloist in Beethoven's Second Piano Concerto with the Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago under maestro Mina Zikri at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall (corner of 56th Street and Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10019) on Sunday afternoon, June 3, 2018 at 1:30 pm, presented by the Alexander & Buono Foundation. The program will also include Liszt's Totentanz, as well as solo piano selections from the classical repertoire and Mr. Nickell's own compositions.

Santa Barbara Symphony To Present Mahler 6!

The Santa Barbara Symphony, under the baton of Maestro Nir Kabaretti, will present Gustav Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 6 for the first time in its 64-year history on Saturday, April 21, at the Granada Theatre. An encore performance will take place on Sunday, April 22. Presented without intermission, the concerts will start at 8 pm on April 21 and at 3 pm on April 22.
