Thirteen people have tried to kill the president of the United States. Four have succeeded. These murderers and would-be murderers are generally dismissed as maniacs and misfits who have little in common with each other, and nothing in common with the rest of us. Assassins suggests otherwise...

The gala, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, will highlight numbers from shows for which Mr. Sondheim has written both music and lyrics, and will feature a full orchestra conducted by Encores! Music Director Rob Berman. The benefit will help fund New York City Center's artistic and education programs. In addition, a portion of the evening's proceeds will go to Young Playwrights Inc, a charity of great importance to Mr. Sondheim.
Birdland Theatre has joined forces with Barrie's Talk is Free Theatre to present a mesmerizing production of Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's darkly comic piece Assassins. Fans of the show will no doubt want to see it, but others are well advised to take this scary ride and see for themselves.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is proud to announce the return of singer/songwriter PATRICK DeGENNARO to the BROADWAY AT BIRDLAND series on Monday, January 19 at 7pm. DeGennaro's last two Birdland appearances were sold out smash hits - his debut show ('The Bacharach Songbook') earned him the 2007 MAC Award for Outstanding Male Vocalist, and his last show's opening song, 'Friend' garnered a 2008 MAC nomination for Song Of The Year. Often compared to Billy Joel and Elton John for his classic pop/rock style, DeGennaro's vocals are in a league of their own. From hard-edged pop-rock, gospel and funk to silky smooth r&b, and romantic ballads, DeGennaro's concerts are always a satisfying mix of musical styles. DeGennaro and his band (Alec Berlin: Guitar, Randy Landau: Bass, Clayton Craddock: Drums, John Roggie: Keyboards) have more original tunes planned for this outing, plus a usual slew of classics.
For this performance, DeGennaro has invited a special guest, Annie Golden, star of the films 'Hair' and '12 Monkeys,' and the Broadway shows The Full Monty and Assassins. They have some show-stopping duets planned as well as an original collaboration, 'Letting Go.'
