Disney Theatrical Productions has just announced that Capathia Jenkins will play the role of Medda in Newsies when the show begins performances at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre on March 15th in advance of a March 29th opening.

Hugh Jackman will return to Broadway during the 2013/2014 season starring as America's greatest showman in HOUDINI, an original musical. Making his Broadway debut as librettist, Academy Award and six-time Emmy Award winner Aaron Sorkin will collaborate with three-time Academy Award and four-time Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz. Directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien, HOUDINI is presented by film and theatre producer Scott Sanders and David Rockwell. Mr. Rockwell will also design the sets for HOUDINI. Additional HOUDINI casting, creative team and design team to be announced at a later date.

It's Christmas in New York, and for the first time in several years, Broadway is lacking a production that celebrates this special time of year. ELF made its Broadway debut in 2010, proceeded by WHITE CHRISTMAS in 2008 and 2009, and HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS in 2006 and 2007. Though there are no current plans for a stop on the Great White Way, a new show- A CHRISTMAS STORY THE MUSICAL is spreading holiday cheer as a part of its current national tour.

MCC Theater has announced the complete cast for the newly reworked and fully re-imagined production of Carrie, the musical. Carrie features music by Michael Gore, lyrics by Dean Pitchford (Academy Award winning composer and lyricist for the original film Fame) and a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (who also adapted the 1974 novel by Stephen King for the 1976 Brian DePalma film). Directed by Stafford Arima, performances for Carrie begin January 31, 2012, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC). The official opening night is set for March 1, 2012.

Aladdin, featuring the Academy Award®-winning score by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, previews on July 7 and runs until July 31, 2011. The show replaces Oklahoma!, which will be postponed until the 2011-2012 season.

The Wall Street Journal called it 'the funniest new musical since Avenue Q.' New Line Theatre, 'The Bad Boy of Musical Theatre,' has been granted the first production rights in the country for the American regional premiere of the Broadway rockabilly musical CRY-BABY, based on John Waters' cult classic film starring Johnny Depp. The original creative team is revising the show for New Line, to make it a smaller, more intimate musical, and it will run here next season, for four weeks in spring 2012.
