President Barack Obama was in New York City yesterday to begin fundraising for his 2012 re-election campaign. As part of the visit, he invited potential endorsers to a performance of Sister Act as part of an event hosted by producer Whoopi Goldberg. Tickets for the special performance and evening event ranged from $250 to $10,000 (the latter of which includes a photo shoot with the President). Obama, Bieber in Town Today; Times Square Bottleneck Expected Throughout the Evening

As previously reported, President Barack Obama has chosen Sister Act for his first Broadway fundraiser of his re-elction campaign. The event, which will be held today, will be hosted by Sister Act producer Whoopi Goldberg. Tickets for the special performance range from $250 to $10,000 (the latter of which includes a photo shoot with the President). Also while in town, Obama will host a second fundraiser with the gay community. Justin Bieber will also be in town for promotional appearances, further adding to the expected traffic gridlock in midtown today. (more...)

Miller is best known for originating the role of the disco diva wannabe Deloris Van Cartier in the 2009 West End run, which she has now transferred to Broadway. She performed in a Central Park production of Hair in the summer of 2008 and was featured in the musical Romantic Poetry at the Manhattan Theatre Club that fall. SISTER ACT National Tour Kicks Off in Toronto Next Fall

Producers Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment have announced that the Tony-nominated Broadway musical Sister Act will launch a North American tour at Toronto's Canon Theatre in the fall of 2012. Additional cities, dates and casting will be announced at a later date. The North American tour of Sister Act will be booked by The Road Company. (more...)

Recently, I had the pleasure of taking my seven-year-old daughter to her very first Broadway show. (I don't count the time was so graciously invited by a friend's grandmother to enjoy full-price, orchestra seats to Lion King and ended up watching from the monitors in the lobby after running out of the theatre in fear. She was only four.) After months of eagerly co-piloting her mother through the New York children's theatre scene, it was finally time to break into the majors. What better first Broadway show could there be for a nice Jewish girl and her mother than Sister Act the musical! (more...)

A long-standing opening night tradition on the Great White Way, the fabled Gypsy Robe is bestowed upon a veteran Broadway chorus member for each opening production. In what has now become a theatrical ritual, originating on Broadway 60 years ago, Sister Act cast member Kevin Ligon received the Gypsy Robe and BroadwayWorld was there for the celebration.
