MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, METAMORPHOSES & More Set for Georgia Shakespeare's 2013 Season
by BWW News Desk - May 1, 2013

As part of its multi-year process to create a strong operating model, Georgia Shakespeare previously announced the key elements of its 2013 artistic programming, which include a more focused approach to its summer productions, as well as further development of 'Shakespeare in the Park' into one of Atlanta's signature cultural events. BWW Reviews: ASSISTED LIVING at ACT Lives Only From Assistance
by Jay Irwin - May 1, 2013

A few days ago I posted a review for another comedy in town where I commented on the fact that they just don't write farces like they used to. And last night the current production at ACT, "Assisted Living" only served to support that statement. That's assuming this World Premiere play from local playwright Katie Forgette was even trying to be a farce. The show, aside from containing a very thin plot and some highly cliche jokes, suffers from an identity crisis as it's not sure what kind of show it wants to be; farce, political commentary, nostalgia piece, etc. But the show does manage some decent moments largely due to the superb cast not to mention borrowing scenes from good plays. International City Theatre Opens DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE, 6/7
by BWW News Desk - Apr 30, 2013

An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet cafe. A stranger at the next table who has had enough. And a dead man, with a lot of loose ends. Richard Israel directs Dead Man's Cell Phone, a wildly imaginative and off-center romantic comedy by MacArthur "Genius" Grant recipient Sarah Ruhl, opening on June 7 at International City Theatre (ICT) in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Two low-priced previews take place on June 5 and 6. (more...)

At TAG's Workshop, Actors Pump Up Their Voices
by Oliver Oliveros - Apr 29, 2013

An actor uses two important tools: the body and the voice. Oftentimes in acting workshops, the facilitator focuses more on physical activities than vocal exercises. However at Theater Actors Guild's (TAG) Actor's Voice Workshop, a different approach to developing the actor is brought about. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Fusion Theatre Co. Presents HUMBLE BOY
by Anya Sebastian - Apr 29, 2013

I have a great deal of respect and admiration for the Fusion Theatre Company. Their productions are highly professional, well produced and consistently deliver good, solid theatrical entertainment. So it pains me considerably to have to say that HUMBLE BOY, which opened at the Cell Theatre on April 25, falls disappointingly short of the mark. (more...)

Theater for the New City to Stage NY Premiere of PASSING THROUGH, 4/10-28
by BWW News Desk - Apr 27, 2013

Tristan Grigsby is a young, tall, virile, dark-haired, handsome, muscular actor and playwright whose first New York play, 'Passing Through,' is a deceptively spare, often humorous disquisition on loneliness. The play presents five characters, all of whom are in a particular state of loneliness, who go through brief dramatic encounters with each other and a visitor/messenger who has been sent by the gods to investigate their peculiar predicament. It has a gentle touch, a distilled style and a Beckettian effect. Theater for the New City will present the work April 10 to 28, directed by Guenevere Donohue. (more...)
