Seth Rogen to Serve as Host for 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards Airing 2/25

Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced that Seth Rogen will serve as host for the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The 27th annual awards ceremony will be held as a daytime luncheon in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica on Saturday, February 25, and the premiere broadcast will air later that evening at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on IFC. President Obama Greets Presidio Students at the Rose Marine Latino Film Festival

Artes de la Rosa will host the World Premiere Screening of It is Rocket Science in Presidio at the 2nd Annual Rose Marine Latino Film Festival. The film will screen on Saturday, February 25th at 7:00 p.m. Directed by Academy and Emmy Award winner Nigel Noble, the film is a short documentary of a Texasborder town physics teacher and her students' unprecedented success in national science and rocketry competitions. Students featured in the film, from the Presidio Rocketry Team, were recently invited to the White House where they participated in the 2nd White House Science Fair this past Tuesday. There, they met President Obama and invited Him to the Premiere of the film documenting their journey at Rose Marine Latino Film Festival. A copy of the film was then presented to the Commander-in-Chief. Director Nigel Noble and students from the team will be in attendance at the screening of the film Saturday the 25th. (more...)

Spotlight On RICHARD III: Maureen Anderman

Known for her many memorable roles on stages and screens large and small, many from the canon of William Shakespeare (OTHELLO, MACBETH) and Edward Albee (THE LADY FROM DUBUQUE, SEASCAPE, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? & LISTENING), Maureen Anderman is making her grand return to the realm of Shakespeare onstage in New York with the new BAM production of RICHARD III directed by Sam Mendes, starring Kevin Spacey. In addition to illustrating many aspects of the rapturously received revival of the historical tragedy as she has traveled with it around the world, Anderman and I also discuss her affiliation with Shakespeare and what she derives from performing his greatest works, with RICHARD III being the central focus. Also, Anderman details her experiences working with Edward Albee on the original Broadway productions of THE LADY FROM DUBUQUE and SEASCAPE, as well as offering some candid observations on some of her favorite feature film and television appearances over the years - THE DAYS AND NIGHTS OF MOLLY DODD and LAW & ORDER included. Gulfshore Playhouse to Present Ken Ludwig's THE FOX ON THE FAIRWAY

Ken Ludwig is an internationally acclaimed playwright whose many hits on Broadway, in London's West End and throughout the world have made his name synonymous with modern comedy. He has had six shows on Broadway and six in the West End, and he has won the Laurence Olivier Award, England's highest theatre honor, as well as three Tony Award nominations and two Helen Hayes Awards. His work has been commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and has been performed in thirty countries in over twenty languages. When Patty Duke played the role of Helen Keller in the Broadway premiere of William Gibson's The Miracle Worker, she was ten years old, and when Madeleine Hall took the stage of the Franklin Theatre on Thursday night in the opening of Studio Tenn's exquisitely crafted revival of the modern American theater classic, she too was ten years old. And it should be noted that as portentous as Duke's debut came to be known, theater lovers still to come may very well consider Madeleine Hall's beautifully crafted performance just as revelatory and just as noteworthy. THE MUSICAL, will be given a single showcase salon performance on Monday, March 5, at 8 PM -- one year and one day later from the day he started it -- at the Rose Nagelberg Theater at the Baruch Performing Arts Center on 25th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue.
