The regular season just ended for the Metropolitan Opera--all that's left is a series of HD rebroadcasts on Lincoln Center Plaza and a couple of low profile concerts in New York City parks--and it's time for a look back at what kind of season it was. With seven new productions and 21 other operas in rep during a season that ran from the end of September to mid-May, the Met was nothing if not far-reaching in its repertoire. Stephen Schwartz to Appear at National Symphony's THE WIZARD AND I, Now thru 5/18

The National Symphony Orchestra Pops will present three performances of The Wizard and I: The Musical Journey of Stephen Schwartz May 16-18 in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. Led by Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke, the performances feature performances by Jeremy Jordan, Norm Lewis, Julia Murney, Jennifer Laura Thompson, and The Washington Chorus. The performances celebrate Stephen Schwartz's 65th birthday as well as the 10th anniversary of the perennially 'popular' Wicked, and Mr. Schwartz will make a special appearance in each of the three programs, performing and sharing stories of the creation of Wicked. Tony Winner Daisy Eagan Welcomes Baby Boy, Monty Harrison Eagan-Bloom

Tony Award winning actress Daisy Eagan and her boyfriend, writer, Kurt Bloom, are pleased to announce the birth of their (completely unplanned, yet gleefully welcomed) first child, Monty Harrison Eagan-Bloom. Monty was born at 3:53 am on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Cedars Sinai Hospital is Los Angeles. Monty entered this world at 7 pounds 14 ounces, 20 and 1/2 inches long. Both mother and baby are happy and healthy. Eagan said, 'Monty is perfect and amazing. His interests include eating, sleeping, pooping and watching Mad Men. And, as our neighbors are quickly learning, he is a coloratura.' (more...)

The Guthrie today announced that eight artists who have graced the Guthrie's stages during its 50-year history, from the first season in 1963 to the theater's current season, are slated to participate in the Guthrie's 50th anniversary on June 22, 2013. Exclusive interviews with the legendary Zoe Caldwell and Christopher Plummer will be unveiled as part of a poignant and celebratory multi-media tribute, while stage veterans Barbara Bryne, Peter Michael Goetz and Stephen Yoakam; two graduates of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program, Matthew Amendt and Valeri Mudek; and an alum of A Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training, Erik Heger; will perform live for the one-night-only event. (more...)

Hearst Corporation today introduced the ELLE Glassware created exclusively for Google Glass at Google I/O 2013. Hearst is the first magazine media company to develop and launch Glassware, with ELLE as the first Hearst brand included in the device's initial gallery of services. ArtCenter/South Florida's new exhibition 'Unpredictable Patterns of Behavior' opens June 5th at both its Richard Shack Gallery (800 Lincoln Road) and at Project 924 (located upstairs at 924 Lincoln Road) and will be on view from June 1-July 28, 2013.
