Silver-screen wit collides with behind-the-scenes lunacy in Once in a Lifetime, George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's classic screwball spoof of Hollywood. Edward Asner and Jonathan Silverman head the cast when L.A. Theatre Works records five performances for radio broadcast, directed by the co-author's multiple award-winning son, Christopher Hart, at the Skirball Cultural Center October 21- 25. L.A. On Monday, September 14th, The National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO) will present a one-night-only all Asian-American performance of Terrence McNally's LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION!, directed by Alan Muraoka, at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) to benefit NAATCO. Joe Mantello, the original director of LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION! and Stephen Bogardus, a member of the play's original cast, were honorary chairs for the NAATCO benefit performance. (more...)

Factory 449: a theatre collective debuts with its inaugural production of 4.48 PSYCHOSIS by Sarah Kane, author of Crave and Blasted. The production, a remount of Factory 449's award-winning workshop production staged as part of the 2009 Capital Fringe Festival, was recognized as "Best Drama" & "Best Overall Production" by the Festival and "Favorite Festival Play" by DC Theatre Scene. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey continues its fall season with the epic masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath by Frank Galati, from the novel by John Steinbeck. The production is directed by Joe Discher, who directed the critically acclaimed Shakespeare Theatre production of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men in 2004. The Tony Award-winning The Grapes of Wrath begins performances on October 21 and continues through November 15 at the Shakespeare Theatre Main Stage. (more...)
