JEDERMANN Comes to Salzburg Festival This Summer
by Stephi Wild - May 3, 2023

Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s Jedermann (Everyman), directed by Max Reinhardt with Salzburg Cathedral as a magnificent backdrop, was given as the inaugural performance of the Salzburg Festival on 22 August 1920. Since then, this founding tradition has been seen more than 700 times — a unique occurrence in German-language theatre.

Review: MOTHER OF THE MAID at Jarrott Productions
by Lynn Beaver - Apr 27, 2023

Jarrott Production's MOTHER OF THE MAID by Jane Anderson is currently playing at Ground Floor Theatre. Sadly this oddly clunky script is more puzzling than entertaining despite a valiant effort by the director, cast and crew.

Review: CHICAGO at The Orpheum Theatre Memphis
by AniKatrina Fageol - Apr 5, 2023

What did our critic think of CHICAGO at The Orpheum Theatre Memphis? Chicago is celebrating 25 dazzling years and it has returned to Memphis! It is certainly a fan favorite, with exhilirating dancing and an iconic story that is known around the world. The 1975 musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, is the 2nd longest running Broadway musical (thanks to the 1996 revival), behind fan favorite Phantom of the Opera.

Review: AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' at Geva Theatre
by Colin Fleming-Stumpf - Jan 25, 2023

What did our critic think of AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' at Geva Theatre? It's curious that 'Ain't Misbehavin'' feels like such a perfect show for a Rochester audience, given that Fats Waller has no apparent Rochester connection; he was born in New York City, died in Kansas City, and spent the bulk of his short life entertaining audiences across the U.S and abroad.

MASTER EDER AND HIS PUMUCKL is Now Playing at Salzburg State Theatre
by Stephi Wild - Dec 13, 2022

He’s always joking, sometimes gruff, vexing people, stealing stuff – can you guess his name? When the otherwise sedate carpentry workshop of Master Eder falls into chaos, with bolts rattling, boards wobbling and things disappearing into thin air, it can mean only one thing: “Hooray, hooray, Pumuckl is on his way!”

Review: THE DROWSY CHAPERONE at Adobe Theater
by Jackie Camborde - Dec 8, 2022

Review: THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO Gets Reimagined at Classical Theatre Company
by Christian Gill - Nov 25, 2022

'That's a lot of laughs in there,' one kind audience member said to me during one of the intermissions. 'A lot of witticisms.' There's something special about seeing a piece of work from almost two hundred and fifty years ago manage to play to a modern audience.

Review: LA RONDINE at Winter Opera
by Steve Callahan - Nov 25, 2022

Winter Opera has presented a truly gorgeous production of Puccini's La Rondine (The Swallow). Puccini is the supreme master of romantic melody, and in Rondine he outdoes himself. I love this opera, my heart having been beguiled early by one lilting, gently syncopated romantic waltz refrain that recurs again and again like the memory of a distant sweet infatuation.

by Lauren Gienow - Oct 11, 2022

After a fully cancelled 2020 season and an out-door-under-a-tent 2021 season, the main stages at the Stratford Festival have finally seen some action this year. Over at the Festival Theatre, the Donna Feore choreographed and directed production of CHICAGO is a huge hit! Two major reasons for this are the phenomenal performances by the two leads. BWW had the opportunity to chat with Roxie and Velma themselves - Chelsea Preston and Jennifer Rider-Shaw, to find out what it has been like to finally do the show they had been waiting two years to mount.
