A family power struggle ensues, with Barbara and her father battling over the answer to the question: does salvation come through faith or finance?

Ford have made a major gift to the Orchestra to endow the assistant conductor chair, currently held by François López-Ferrer. The gift marks the second chair supported in perpetuity by the Fords, who generously endowed the principal tuba chair in 2017.

Anne-Sophie Mutter Embarks on North American Recital Tour

-Anne-Sophie Mutter, one of the world's greatest and most beloved classical artists, embarks on a six-city North American recital tour playing the works of Beethoven, Debussy, Mozart, Poulenc and Ravel, and a new work by Sebastian Currier, March 6 through 17, 2019. Mutter will be joined by her longtime collaborator pianist Lambert Orkis for all six recital appearances. On March 12, Mutter will return to Carnegie Hall for her only 2018-19 season appearance in New York, performing the world premiere of Sebastian Currier's new Ghost Trio for Piano Trio, followed by the Chicago premiere of the work on March 17. Ghost Trio is the fourth work by Sebastian Currier that Mutter has both commissioned and premiered. Later this season, Mutter will play Mozart Violin Concertos with the Chamber Orchestra Vienna-Berlin on a tour of Europe and in Costa Mesa, California, followed by two special concerts at the Tanglewood Festival featuring works by Andre Previn and John Williams in July.

Actor Douglas Rain, Stratford Pioneer And Voice Of 2001's HAL, Dies At 90

The Stratford Festival lost one of its pioneers today. Douglas Rain died of natural causes early this morning at the age of 90 at St. Marys Memorial Hospital, just outside of Stratford, Ontario, the city in which he established his career, becoming one of the world's great classical actors.

Under the direction of National Philharmonic Concertmaster Colin Sorgi, the National Philharmonic Chamber Players perform the works of Schubert and Mendelssohn on April 22 at 3pm at the John Kendall Recital Hall, Potter Violins in Takoma Park, MD. Entitled "Next Generation," the concert showcases gifted students from the Philharmonic's Summer String Institutes performing the Mendelssohn Octet in E-flat Major alongside members of the Philharmonic Chamber Players. The concert also features Schubert's String Quartet in C Major. Potter's intimate hall seats only 90, allowing concert goers to experience chamber music as it was originally intended, up close and personal. Opera Saratoga Announces Complete Casting And Programs For 2018 Summer Festival
