THE LION KING Opens Tonight in Nashville

The Nashville return of Disney's The Lion King opens tonight, Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall for a limited engagement of four weeks through Sunday, June 2. Julie Taymor to be Honored at the 2013 Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art First Awards at Brooklyn Museum

Award-winning theatre, opera, and film director Julie Taymor will be honored at the 2013 Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art First Awards at the Brooklyn Museum on June 13 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The award, which honors women who have broken gender barriers to make remarkable contributions in their fields, will be bestowed on Taymor, winner of the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical in 1998. It will be presented by Museum Trustee Elizabeth A. Sackler and followed by a conversation between Taymor and feminist icon Gloria Steinem. (more...)

Disney's The Lion King is celebrating its second sold-out engagement in the Fox Cities, which concluded on Sunday, May 5 at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. The triumphant four-week return grossed over $4.7 million at the ticket office and entertained more than 61,000 patrons during 32 performances. The award-winning musical's six-week Wisconsin premiere engagement in 2007 played a sold-out run at the Fox Cities P.A.C. (more...)

Hyde Park International Acquires International Rights to LEGENDS OF OZ: DOROTHY'S RETURN

Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park International (HPI) announced today that the company has picked-up international rights to directors Will Finn and Daniel St. Pierre's 3D animated family adventure film LEGENDS OF OZ: DOROTHY'S RETURN starring Lea Michele, Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi and Kelsey Grammer. The film is from a script by Adam Balsam and Randi Barnes, based on the series of books by Roger Stanton Baum. Bonne Radford is producing alongside Ryan Carroll and Roland Carroll of Summertime Entertainment. (more...)

Broadway at TPAC To Welcome THE LION KING & More for 2012-13 Season

Tennessee Performing Arts Center has announced the six Broadway titles visiting for its 2012-13 HCA/TriStar Broadway Series, plus two Broadway specials. In a presentation to season ticket holders, special guests, and press today, President and CEO Kathleen O'Brien unveiled the new season, which will conclude in 2013 with a four-week run of the Tony Award®-winning hit Disney's The Lion King.
