Theatre in the Park will be unveiled with a major revival of the musical Barnum presented in association with Cameron Mackintosh. Directed by Timothy Sheader, Artistic Director of Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, this production will star the versatile and consummate Broadway entertainer Christopher Fitzgerald in the title role.
Sitting down with any member of the Houston theatre community is one of the true perks of writing for BroadwayWorld. Recently, I got to sit down with three of the four cast members in Stark Naked Theatre's upcoming production of Yasmina Reza's GOD OF CARNAGE. Kim Tobin (playing Veronica), John Gremillion (playing Alan), and Kay Allmand (playing Annette) all talked to me about the show and why Houston audiences will love it.
Otterbein University will present Arthur Miller's AFTER THE FALL on March 7-10 and March 14-16 at the Fritsche Theatre on 30 S. Grove Street in Westerville. The play presents a rare glimpse into the mind of the playwright and his failed marriage to actress Marilyn Monroe.
Beginning in April, 2013, 1812 Productions will present the world premiere comedy It's My Party: The Women and Comedy Project, created and directed by 1812 Productions' Artistic Director, Jennifer Childs, and featuring a diverse ensemble of Philadelphia actresses. A production which will use physical comedy, storytelling, and music in a one-of-a-kind theatrical event, the creative process for It's My Party: The Women and Comedy Project began in 2010 with two questions: how do women use comedy and how does that usage change as they age. With these pointed inquiries as her guides, Ms. Childs embarked on three inclusive and ongoing initiatives which, together, would form the core of the Project.
World Premieres are always exciting to attend. You never know what you are getting yourself into, so there is the allure and excitement of mystery. Sometimes they're terrible. Sometimes they're amazing. Sometimes they're in-between. Luckily, Leighza Walker's first full-length play, FISHING, is an enjoyable and fascinating exploration of loyalty, fidelity, love, and life.
'Plan Your Own Estate: Passing on Your Assets and Your Values Legally and Efficiently' by Deirdre R. Wheatley-Liss is an information-packed resource on how to preserve the value of one's assets and efficiently leave them to beneficiaries. The book includes chapters for every type of marital and non-marital status, including married couples with children and grandchildren, singles, unmarried couples, non-citizens and same-sex couples. The book underscores the importance of taking advantage of tax-reduction strategies - no matter how extensive or modest one's level of wealth - thereby reducing or eliminating the government as a beneficiary.
We speak with the talented Ann Hampton Callaway on her upcoming concert, her personal relationship with Barbara Streisand, new CDs, and so much more!
In the crisp, morning hours on December 27, 2012 I got the chance to speak with Lara Teeter, who will be playing Cap'n Andy in the upcoming production of SHOW BOAT at Houston Grand Opera. The celebrated actor had a plethora of interesting and scholarly items to discuss about SHOW BOAT, and the character of Cap'n Andy. We also had a good time discussing his career as an actor, director, choreographer, and teacher.

We speak with Denver Center veteran Kathleen McCall on her beginnings with the Denver Center Theatre Company, her long love affair with Shakespeare and of course her marriage.
I daresay that playwright Jon Kern probably found a previously untried twist in the old staple of “meeting cute” in a romantic comedy by having the central couple of his play be a suicide bomber on a mission to sacrifice himself, and take as many lives as possible with him, on the observation deck of the Empire State Building, and a fellow terrorist helping to achieve his goal as revenge against an American drone attack that killed her husband on her wedding day when the celebration was mistaken for a Taliban gathering.
The Pajama Game's abbreviated run (just four public performances in four days) means that time's a-wasting to get your tickets for the remaining two shows tonight and tomorrow afternoon. So get to it! You'll be glad you did.
Betsy Morgan is heading to Houston for the first time in the touring production of LES MISERABLES. She tells me she has "pseudo-family" in town, and she is looking forward to seeing those family and friends in addition to everything that Houston has to offer. One of her first big parts was originating Leslie in the musical GIANT, which is all about Texas, so she is excited to see some of the Historic aspects of our city. Taking time out of her busy schedule, she chatted with me about her life in the theatre, LES MISERABLES, touring, and performing as Fantine.
I have had another fantastic week! And today I'm gearing up for the weekend! As I mentioned in my last blog, usually on my days off, I tend to 'nerd out'. Often I spend time at The American Museum of Natural History (and this Wednesday was no exception). On this occasion, I took my good friend and castmate Tessa Alves with me, and we headed straight to the Planetarium show. I have seen this spectacular exhibit three times, and each time I see it, I become re-inspired with life, and I always leave with a sense of inner peace and tranquility. If you like science or have interest in learning more about our Universe, then you need to see this show.

As Houstonians gear up for Theater LaB's special event and Regional Premiere of MISSIONARY POSITION, the second part of Steven Fales' Mormon Boy Trilogy, Steven Fales is busy in Salt Lake City. He tells me he is thrilled to be returning to Houston, especially since CONFESSIONS OF A MORMON BOY sold out before he arrived in town when he premiered the show in the region. He noted that Houston audiences loved it, and really hopes that Houston audiences will eat up MISSIONARY POSTION as well. He feels that the time in right with Romney running for president because audiences will get to see "Mormon Temple ceremonies from an insider and not someone making fun of the church from the outside."

It was recently my great pleasure to sit down and talk with Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell, of Hot Summer Nights | Theatre Raleigh, about their current production of Race, and their unique creative relationship for the production. The two are married, and this was the first time that Alan has acted in a play which Lauren directed. The two discussed how they met, how they keep their talent crushes alive, and how they worked together to create this emotionally-charged piece of theater.
During a recent ABC conference call with reporters, THE BACHELORETTE's Sean Lowe talked about his experience on the show and his recent heart-breaking elimination by Emily Maynard. Check out what he had to say below!
