Since its inception in 1973, the OpenStage ensemble of theatre artists has dedicated itself to engaging its audiences with intimate and authentic theatrical experiences, and according to OpenStage Theatre Producing Artistic Director Denise Burson Freestone, its 2009-2010 seasons will continue to explore classical and contemporary plays that do just that.

Florida Studio Theatre concludes it's Summerfest Season with Jess Borgeson, Adam Long and Daniel Singer's The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) opening July 29 and continues through August 23, 2009. Called a 'Fantasia of zany energy' by the New York Daily News, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) has 'a talent to mine humor through the bards own words and the antics of 3 comedic actors playing all the great roles,' commented Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director.

South Coast Repertory kicks off the 2009-10 Season with Putting It Together, a compilation of Stephen Sondheim songs, that the composer put together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, creating a narrative set at a cocktail party in an elegant Manhattan condo. The non-traditional musical, led by Broadway and television star Harry Groener, has a cast of five (a glamorous but slightly jaded couple, a starry-eyed younger couple and a savvy observer) who sing more than 30 songs that reflect their lives, lifestyles and moods of the moment. Some of the songs will be familiar, some less so, a few were even cut from their original musical scores, but they are all sophisticated, smart and drop-dead droll. All, in other words, Sondheim.

As she tries to rise above her humble Midwestern origins, Mae must keep the two men in her life, foster brother and former lover Lloyd, and new boyfriend Henry, from dragging her back down. Little does Mae know that the first strong decision she's ever made about her life may be the last decision she will ever make. 'After spending two weeks at the Dialog Festival in Wroclaw, Poland last year, I came back to San Francisco with a new idea about what really good and interesting theater ought to be,' said MUD director Paige Rogers. 'The sense of humanness I experienced, where the audience breathes along with the performance, is such an elemental aspect of theater and something I feel Cutting Ball can give its audience in its new performance space.
