Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers covering New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers, national publications and other media beyond Broadway, announced their 2010-11 nominations this morning.

This morning, Norbert Leo Butz and Kathleen Chalfant announced the nominations for The 77th Annual Drama League Awards in the categories of Distinguished Production of Play, Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Revival of a Play, Distinguished Revival of a Musical and the Distinguished Performance Award. Both actors are previous winners of The Drama League's Distinguished Performance Award. The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) and Broadway in Columbus (BIC) today announced a six-show, seven-week Broadway season for 2011-12. Subscriptions for the Fifth Third Bank Broadway Series go on sale today, and features three Columbus premieres-Billy Elliot, Shrek, and Memphis.

The New York Times reports today that Will Swenson (Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Hair) will direct independent feature film adaptation of Carol Lynn Pearson's play 'Facing East.' Pearson is also writing the screenplay. The play centers on a family's struggle to come to terms with their Morman faith after losing their gay son to suicide. The subject mater is not far from Swenson's heart, as he witnessed similar struggles within his own childhood Mormon community. Say Swenson of the project: 'Getting through my own adolescence as a young Mormon was challenging as it was, but watching my best friend struggle with his identity as a gay teenager was heartbreaking.'

As Priscilla Queen Of The Desert The Musical approaches its second birthday in the West End, Richard Grieve, best known for his role as Jonny Foster in ITV1's Emmerdale, will join the Company to play Tick from Monday 7 March 2011.

The continuation of Broadway's longest-running musical The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies will open in May 2011 at the Regent Theatre in London. The Australian production will not be a carbon copy of the London production, and instead will have new design and a new director. Simon Phillips (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) will direct, with Gabriela Tylesova behind the design. Guy Simpson, who worked with the Australian production of Phantom, will serve as music supervisor, and Graeme Murphy will choreograph.

Sunday, the 5th December, saw TheatreMAD's 7th annual A West End Christmas concert at St Paul's (The Actors') Church in Covent Garden.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, David Ian and The Really Useful Group have announced that Jason Donovan will star as 'Captain Von Trapp' in their smash hit production of the legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein musical 'THE SOUND OF MUSIC'.
