Andrew Lloyd Webber's Musical Gets a Top Notch Production Directed by Eric Schaeffer

Eric Schaeffer, Artistic Director of the Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre, today announced the company's 2010-2011 season of four musicals and three plays, with the innovative company producing three world premieres and one regional premiere.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director), in association with Tracy Aron, announced that two time Tony® Award-winner Donna Murphy will star in the new Broadway musical THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE, directed by Leonard Foglia. THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE features book & lyrics by Iris Rainer Dart and music by Mike Stoller and Artie Butler.

The new Broadway production of George Bernard Shaw's play Mrs. Warren's Profession will star Tony Award winner Cherry Jones as 'Kitty Warren' & Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins making her Broadway debut as 'Vivie Warren.' The production will be directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42nd St). The cast will also feature Adam Driver as 'Frank Gardner', Mark Harelik as 'Sir George Crofts', Edward Hibbert as 'Mr. Praed' & Michael Siberry as 'Reverend Samuel Gardner'.

Tickets for the upcoming Broadway production of George Bernard Shaw's play Mrs. Warren's Profession go on sale to the general public on July 30. The opposites attracting plot is probably as old as romantic comedy itself, but even if Rooms: a rock romance follows familiar paths, the Paul Scott Goodman (book/music/lyrics) and Miriam Gordon (book) two-person musical is such a buoyant, funny and upbeat affair that the clichés of the story are conquered by the cleverness and exuberance with which the story is told. Under Scott Schwartz's swift and breezy direction, the 90-minute one-act scoots the audience along on an immensely enjoyable ride.

Reading the director's notes for NonProphet Theater Company's production of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW had me wondering, if indeed, 'many people have never seen the movie, much less the stage show'. I mean, I grew up during the 1960's and 70's, so I was exposed to the cult that is 'Rocky Horror' as soon as I could drive (or catch a ride) down to the Varsity Theater on Delmar for a midnight screening. But, I guess the mass proliferation of DVD's and widescreen TV's have replaced that unique communal rite of passage.

Warner Home Video announces that five classic MGM musicals have been re-mastered for an April 25 release, marking their debut to DVD. The box set 'Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory' will contain 'It's Always Fair Weather,' 'Summer Stock,' 'Three Little Words,' 'Till The Clouds Roll By,' and 'Ziegfeld Follies.' In addition, the titles will also be sold individually.
