With the crisp, cool weather and holidays coming, you will want to savor Cataleja with its markedly rich flavor and texture. It’s also an opportunity to discover food pairings that go nicely with the whisky.
As written—and as typically performed—Sam Shepard's 1980 dark comedy True West can feel like it skates around some of the troubling issues lurking beneath America's self image. Its vision of a dichotomous West of freedom and constraint, open range and suburb, can seem a naive gloss over questions of dislocated Native American nations and the slave labor which drove the engine of nineteenth-century progress. Not so with the keenly visualized, expertly directed, and authentically acted production at Brown/Trinity MFA. This is a brilliant take on this classic that everyone should see. Even if you don't think you like Shepard. Seriously.

What did our critic think of NEIL SIMON'S ROSE AND WALSH at Hampton Theatre Company?
The new reworking, which is from a forthcoming EP of remixes of tracks from Pole’s latest album Tempus, sees Sleaford Mods take the glacial-paced brooding stepper of “Stechmück”, completely reworking it with their skewed pop sensibilities. Bouncing beats, squelching basslines and watery electronic echoes accompany Jason Williamson’s worldview.
A dazzling evening of pure vocal, instrumental, and theatrical bliss occurred on the evening of October 21,2023 when the renowned Broadway veteran and entertainer Brian Stokes Mitchell wowed the crowd at the Music Center at Strathmore. This two -time Tony Award winning talent showcased versatility to the max and he delivered an upbeat spirit of positive energy and goodwill that made his impeccable talent even more appealing. (His hope was to make the audience feel better by the end of the concert—then they had felt when they had come in, --- and this hope was fulfilled).
Her recent bio musical, nominated for nearly every Tony Award category yet only claiming one for Adrienne Warren's performance as Tina, follows Tina from her beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, all the way claiming the title of Queen of Rock and Roll. World premiere musical A WONDERFUL WORLD has a wonderful lead in James Monrie Iglehart as Louis Armstrong. Iglehart embodies the acclaimed vocalist and trumpeter completely; he nails Armstrong’s signature raspy voice and vocals and larger-than-life presence, but he’s also a master at embodying the role’s emotions. He’s a joy to watch in every moment he’s onstage, even as Aurin Squire’s book charts both Armstrong’s successes and his more human mistakes. In terms of framework, A WONDERFUL WORLD surprisingly reminded me of Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss’s SIX. The musical starts and ends with Armstrong’s four wives: Daisy Parker (Khalifa White), Lil Hardin (Jennie Harney Fleming), Alpha Smith (Brennyn Lark), and Lucille Wilson (Ta’rea Campbell). Each of the musical’s four parts is centered around one of Armstrong’s wives. While the musical piqued my interest in Armstrong’s biography as a whole, I think this framework meant the timeline on his route to fame was incredibly condensed. And the musical certainly conveys that Armstrong was quite the philanderer; Squire’s book and Christopher Renshaw’s direction and conception don’t shy away at all from the fact that Armstrong cheated on each of his past wives with the next one.
