This season, Broadway welcomes a star-studded revival of Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People starring Emmy Award-winners Jeremy Strong and Michael Imperioli, and Victoria Pedretti. Behind the production is powerhouse pair, Tony Award-winning director Sam Gold and acclaimed, award-winning playwright Amy Herzog, a real-life married couple who are making their debut as collaborators on the production. When Des Moines Performing Arts announces its new season, there is always a show or two I can't help but get excited about. This year, one of those shows for me was 'Company,' which is now playing through February 11.
The gender-swapped production of Company, which has previously run on Broadway and London's West End, and is now embark on a North American tour, will open in Sweden this year. Performances begin on August 29 at Sergels torg , Stora scenen, floor 2.
The musical is based on a section of Tolstoy’s War and Peace, but it’s anything but staid and traditional. In the midst of war, death, and constrained social circumstances, in fact, it’s enormously successful in feeling like a celebration of life.
