Steppenwolf for Young Adults (SYA) today announced two world premieres as part of its 2012/13 Season: The Book Thief, based on the novel by Markus Zusak, adapted by Heidi Stillman, directed by Hallie Gordon; and Oral Histories, collected from across the city by DePaul University students, curated and written by Miles Harvey (director to be announced at a later date). Today, the spotlight falls upon Travis Kendrick, who continues his run as one of the go-to guys at Clarksville’s Roxy Regional Theatre in The Wedding Singer, opening tonight. Coming up for Travis is the role of Chachi in Happy Days, which will close the company’s 2011-2012 season. Not only an actor, Travis is also a certified yoga instructor, teaching classes around Clarksville and at the Roxy, and he’s choreographer of note, having choreographed Just Another High School Musical at Clarksville’s Northeast High School, Gallantry for Austin Peay State University Opera and he’ll be doing a number for The Roxy’s 101 Dalmatians the Musical later this year. Stage and screen stars Brooke Shields and Richard Chamberlain will take on the iconic roles of Chris MacNeil and Father Merrin in playwright John Pielmeier’s world premiere of The Exorcist at the Geffen Playhouse. Helmed by acclaimed director John Doyle, who won a Tony Award for his striking reimagining of Sweeney Todd, this stage adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s famous 1971 novel transforms the unsettling battles of good versus evil, faith versus fact and ego versus ethos into a uniquely theatrical experience as sophisticated as it is suspenseful. Michael James Leslie, Ashley Blanchet to Star in Kansas City Rep's LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Kansas City Repertory Theatre has announced the cast for Little Shop of Horrors, its final production of the 2011-12 season. The Rep’s Associate Artistic Director Kyle Hatley will direct. He has also directed the Rep’s productions of Circle Mirror Transformation, A Christmas Carol, The Borderland, Nathan Louis Jackson’s Broke-ology, and he has appeared in The Whipping Man and The Glass Menagerie at the Rep. Hatley is a noted writer and director for the Kansas City Fringe Festival and is artistic director and co-founder of Chatterbox Audio Theater. (more...)
