Tell us a bit about Hussain In The Membrane.

It's me performing an hour of stand up comedy. It's the funniest stuff I could think of in the last 12 months. A lot of it is topical political material, but the gear always comes from a very personal place. Whether it's me attending a Trump rally the day before he got elected, to unsuccessfully avoiding Australia Day, to my mum finding a dead man in the toilet whilst she was on tour with me.

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

I had such an amazing time last year in Edinburgh. Crowds were awesome, and I think Edinburgh is a natural home for stand up comedy, and performance art that is a little off-beat. I feel like Edinburgh is where you bring your A-game, and so bringing my show to Edinburgh is somewhat of a personal challenge to really give my show 100% respect.

What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?

Oh man, this is a tough question. I am performing stand up comedy, so are others. My comedy is personal and political - so are other shows. I'm from Australia - so are others. I'm Muslim and brown - so are others. I fully cater for all audience members each night - so do others. I provide full body massages to all audience members at the start and end of each show - so do others.

Who would you recommend comes to see you?

Anyone who likes to laugh and have the knots in their back massaged out simultaneously.

Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch at the festival?

Urzila Carlson. Rhys Nicholson. Nath Valvo. Hannah Gadsby. Jason Byrne.
