Tell us a bit about Kidocracy.

Kidocracy is an interactive theatre show for children aged 6+, presented by Brehon, an ancient Irish know-it-all. The show introduces children to some very simple concepts relating to politics, governing and leadership while having fun at the same time.

This is a unique and exciting show for children that aspires to show the importance of participation in a democracy, whether it be real or invented. The structure of the show is intended to involve as many of the children present as possible, either in the proposing of ideas or the games that take place during the show.

What are you hoping people will take away from it?

I'd like the parents to see the importance of not being afraid to talk about what's going on in the world with their children as they'll realise they pick up more about what's going on in the world than we give them credit for, and that they'd understand and enjoy the show's workings on a number of levels.

There's plenty in there to entertain them but with the younger members of the audience, we want them all to have fun taking part in the building of an imaginary child-led country like Kidocracy and come away with more confidence and a sense that everyone has something to offer the country where they live.

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

It's a great showcase for a show like this and hopefully a springboard to bring it on to various other festivals and venues.

What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?

As far as I know it's one of the only shows that has such lofty aims as introducing children to ideas the will help them with the notion of leadership and democracy but at the same time, we're still just grown-ups running around in silly costumes getting them to play some fun games.

Who would you recommend comes to see you?

Anyone with children aged 6 or over(and yes sometimes precocious 5 year olds) and especially those with no interest in politics as this is a show that avoids anything partisan. There's no left or right on Kidocracy, there's just everyone in it together to make it as good and as fun as it can be.

Timings and ticket information for Kidocracy are available on the edfringe website.
