Tell us a bit about How To Be A Winner.
How to be a winner is a mixture between game show and stand up comedy in which I recreate all of my favourite 90s game shows and change them all ever so slightly to be about me (to avoid copyright issues and to satisfy my enormous ego). Every show we select a small handful of game shows at random so each day is completely different but ends up being a lot of fun.
Why bring it to Edinburgh?
Edinburgh is my favourite time of the year and I love coming up to hone my craft. This show is a mixture of improv and audience interaction which are my strongest skills and I love the unpredictability of the Edinburgh audiences.
What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?
Every single show is completely different but still a nostalgic trip back to the golden age of TV. You might relive a classic game show or discover a show you have never even heard of but either way you will have a good time.
Is it possible to prepare for a show where every performance is different?
To a certain degree yes. There is a lot of improvisation but the basic rules and set up of each show needs to be prepared. Most of my show is done through PowerPoint and I think this is the most complicated presentation I have ever made in my life and it currently is about 2GB in size.
I've worked really hard to reduce the amount of props I need into one easy to carry bag (although it is quite heavy) but when the show starts, literally anything can happen. I can only plan so far and after that is just about being quick on your feet.
Who would you recommend comes to see you?
Anyone who was alive in the 90s and has fond memories of sitting around with the family watching classic game shows. Anyone who enjoys interactive comedy experiences. Anyone who likes shouting catchphrases.
