We talk to the creators of In Tents and Purposes ahead of their run at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe.
Tell us a bit about In Tent and Purposes
It's a lot to do with being twentysomething and not knowing how the rest of your life is going to play out. Which to be fair, is relevant at any age and why we think it's appealed a lot to older generations too. I guess it's asking how much control we have - or don't have - over what happens to us. Friendship is also a big part of the story. Oh, and we should mention it's a comedy. Very playful. Very fun.
What inspired the play?A real-life argument we had which began with Roxy badly miming getting out of a car door (like she was getting out of the DeLorean time machine) and ended in a genuine physical fight. (No scars, just a couple of lingering pinch marks and sheepish faces).
We started the show at Lyric Hammersmith, followed by a week's run at VAULT festival and both times were overwhelmed by the audience response. (Positive! Just to clarify...) Hopefully Edinburgh will greet us with the same enthusiasm... We've got edible bribes at the ready just in case.
What's next for In Tents and Purposes?Hopefully a transfer into town or a regional tour. Failing that - a private performance for Roxy's grandmother in Bedford.
Are there any other performances you're hoping to catch in Edinburgh? So many! Really though, where to begin...Talking to Strangers at Assembly, Mr Incredible at Underbelly, and Norris and Parker's See You at the Gallows at Pleasance Courtyard...The list goes on...
