We talk to Bourgeois and Maurice about their 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show How To Save The World Without Really Trying.
Tell us a bit about the show
We spend 55 minutes catwalking through the quagmire of current affairs, attempting to sum up the latest geo-political calamities in eight catchy numbers. We aim to make the audience feel better about the state of the world by lying to them about everything.
What was the inspiration?
The shower of sh*t that seems to be raining down upon us all.
What sets Bourgeois & Maurice apart from other cabarets at this year's festival?
We have a live 60-piece orchestra, we parachute in from a helicopter, we rewind time itself, we give bars of solid gold to every audience member, Beyonce makes a guest appearance as a loveable chimney sweep and we have really, really nice outfits.
How long have you been working together?
Nine painful, arduous years. We never thought we'd be doing it for so long, or that it might become what we loosely term a "job". If we had, we'd have chosen a name that people can spell.
What's next for you after the Fringe?
Therapy, a two-week run at Soho Theatre in October, finishing off our musical for Birmingham Rep, playing at a festival for God. Not necessarily in that order.
