About the Album: PS Classics, the label dedicated to the heritage of Broadway and American popular song, will release the new Broadway cast album of the Kennedy Center's acclaimed revival of FOLLIES on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. The two-disc set is produced by PS Classics co-founder Tommy Krasker, who has helmed over a dozen Sondheim cast recordings. The recording is now available for preorder on the label's website, www.psclassics.com.
The discs feature a 52-page full-color booklet with essay, synopsis, lyrics, production photos and a brief note from producer Krasker, in which he explains, “When the opportunity arose this year to record a new production of Follies, I told Steve Sondheim that I wanted to do an expansive recording that not only conveyed the glories of the score, but captured the experience of the show itself. I mapped out a recording edition, and happily, Steve was enthusiastic.” This New Broadway Cast Recording features not only the songs from the production, but carefully chosen dialogue lead-ins, scenes and speeches; from the haunting soprano sax solo that begins the show to the ghostly “Hey, up there” strain that ends it, these two CDs comprise nearly 110 minutes of Sondheim and Goldman’s Follies, resulting in a singular Follies experience on disc.
FOLLIES features a book by James Goldman and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The production is directed by Eric Schaeffer with choreography by Warren Carlyle and music direction by James Moore.
