Stage and screen crossover star Alan Cumming has revealed that he has no qualms uttering the infamous title of Shakespeare's bloodiest play, while in rehearsals for the Broadway mounting of the unprecedented new production.
Of course, it has been a longheld theatre custom to never speak the title of the Shakespearean tragedy while in a theater, instead referring to it as "The Scottish Play" or something similar, but the classic play's new star has shorn himself of any allegiance to the ways of old.
Cumming Tweets, "I am going to say Macbeth everywhere, even in the theatre. None of this 'Scottish play' stuff for me!1"
Barrymore Theatre patrons beware!
