Bronx Opera Opens Rossini's LA GAZZA LADRA - 1/12/2013

The Bronx Opera asks who stole the silver spoon in its season 46 opener, ROSSINI’S LA GAZZA LADRA (The Thieving Magpie). Sung entirely in English with a full chorus and orchestra, BxO’s tradition of supplying the borough with lavish musical fare as well as intimate engrossing concerts and educational programming has endured thanks to the Spierman family since 1967.

Seattle Opera's LA CENERENTOLA Rings in the New Year - 1/12/2013

Seattle Opera rings in the New Year next month with royalty, a ball, and plenty of giant rats when it stages La Cenerentola, Rossini's effervescent take on the Cinderella story. But you won't find a glass slipper, an evil stepmother, or a fairy godmother in this opera; instead, this uniquely Italian retelling features a prince in disguise, a pompous stepfather, and a wise philosopher. Love, laughter, virtue, and brilliant bel canto vocalism win out at the end of this opera by the composer of The Barber of Seville. La Cenerentola opens on Saturday, January 12, and runs for eight performances through January 26.

The Public Theater Opens Soho Rep's Production of Nature Theater Production of OK's 'LIFE AND TIMES' - 1/16/2013

The Public Theater announced today that it will present the Soho Rep production of the American premiere of the Nature Theater of Oklahoma’s LIFE AND TIMES: Episodes 1-4 as a special engagement of the 2013 Under the Radar Festival. Conceived and directed by Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper, the epic serial saga LIFE AND TIMES will run January 16 through February 2, 2013. The 2013 Under the Radar Festival will run January 9 through 20, 2013 at The Public Theater at Astor Place, 425 Lafayette Street.


THE LAST SEDER Limited Engagement Opens Today, Extends to to 1/16 - 1/16/2013

Rosalind Productions Inc.'s Off-Broadway premiere of Jennifer Maisel's The Last Seder is set to open tonight, Tuesday December 4th (7pm). This Off-Broadway limited engagement at Theater Three (311 West 43rd Street) began December 1st and has been extended to January 13th. The show runs 100 minutes without an intermission.

INFLATABLE FRANKENSTEIN Closes at The Kitchen - 1/19/2013

As part of the eighth edition of the COIL festival, Performance Space 122 (PS122) and The Kitchen present the world premiere of Inflatable Frankenstein from Radiohole. One of New York’s most tenacious and beloved ensembles explores the cultural legend of Frankenstein – everyone’s metaphor for nearly everything. Source material includes Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, James Whale's classic Frankenstein films, details from Mary Shelley's tragic life, the work of Antonin Artaud and parts of over 100 "Frankenstein" films. Inflatable Frankenstein is blood chilling and completely strange; filled with whimsical creature fantasy, technological absurdity, electric air and bodily fluids.

TADA Opens THE LITTLE MOON THEATER - 1/19/2013

TADA! Youth Theater has announced a new production of Michael Slade and Joel Gelpe’s The Little Moon Theater, based on the book by Irene Haas, with choreography by Joanna Greer, musical direction by Jim Colleran and direction by Janine Nina Trevens. The Little Moon Theater will play a limited engagement at at TADA! Theater (15 West 28th St. 3rd Fl. New York, NY 10001). Performances begin Saturday, January 19 and continue through Saturday, February 16.


Perfect Disgrace's A CRUCIBLE Closes at The Wild Project - 1/19/2013

TOTALLY TUBULAR TIME MACHINE Begins Off-Broadway - 1/19/2013

TTTM Productions and Robert Watman (producer), mastermind behind the iconic dance clubs Polly Esther's and Culture Club, have announced that NYC's colorful Culture Club will be the lush setting for TOTALLY TUBULAR TIME MACHINE - the new pop musical where gossip takes the drivers seat and audience members are thrust into the celebrity limelight. The production, which features hit songs from the 80s, 90s and today, is slated for a limited run Off-Broadway, with previews beginning on Saturday, January 19, 2013. The official opening night will be on Saturday, February 9, 2013.


SILENCE! THE MUSICAL Resumes at Elektra Theatre - 1/19/2013

SILENCE! The Musical will conclude its current run tonight at the Elektra Theatre, 669 Eighth Avenue (at 42nd St.) Following the announcement that SILENCE! would be ending its long run today, December 30th, ticket sales unexpectedly soared, shattering all previous box office records for the show so far. As a result, the producers determined that performances of the smash hit show will resume after a brief hiatus on January 19th.


The Met: Live in HD Debuts Donizetti's MARIA STUARDA at Peterborough Players - 1/19/2013

The Metropolitan Opera's premiere production of Donizetti's Maria Stuarda opened recently to rave reviews. The Peterborough Players will broadcast The Met: Live in HD's extraordinary performance of this magnificent opera on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 1 pm.
