Within days college students will start readying for exams and BroadwayWorld's Student Center will take its winter break. To tie you over until classes start back up in January, we brings you a look back at the college spotlights, features and guest posts of the past fall. Enjoy and we'll see you back here in January! The Department of Theatre at Millikin University in Decatur, IL, will present the Shakespearean tragedy MACBETH starting December 5 thru 9 at the Albert Taylor Theatre. The FSU Student Theatre Association presents the world premier of Alexander Sage Oyen’s haunting original musical A Night Like This directed by FSU senior and FSU STA artistic director Blayze Teicher. Mitchell Hébert, professor of theater at the University of Maryland, co-directed the School of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies and National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts’ bilingual production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The Helen Hayes Award winner discussed being a part of such a groundbreaking project and seeing it evolve from concept to successful stage production. (more...) The University of Maryland’s School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies performed their original interpretation of the Shakespearean comedy in collaboration with the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts at UMD in September and Beijing, China in October. Rider Dance Ensemble is a completely student run organization that has been on the rise at Rider University for some six odd years. When current president Kate Mina initially auditioned her freshmen year, there was roughly thirty students in the company; now Mina is the director of over 100 talented young men and women. Rider's upcoming production HOME will play November 17 and 18. (more...) A hysterical ride, Noises Off propels us into a world of absolute chaos and out-of-control laughter. In typical farce fashion, this show’s quickened pace will leave you exhausted at the end of the night. Noises Off is crowd favorite with its many mix-ups and mayhem. While all fun and games for the audience, the show is an incredibly complex and difficult one to stage! (more...) The School of Theatre at Florida State carries on its mission to engage the Tallahassee community with the Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) presentation of Kevin Dyer’s The Monster Under the Bed, running November 15-18, 2012. TYA is an annual initiative of the FSU School of Theatre that concentrates on the theatrical “audiences of tomorrow” – our youth. Monster was the play chosen this season to engage students and families alike with its fun-filled, chaotic sense of adventure and heartfelt charm. (more...)
