The Finborough Theatre has just been announced the winner of the Peter Brook Empty Space Award for the second time.
The new Winter Season 2013 continues our policy of acclaimed rediscoveries (London Wall by John Van Druten, and Laburnum Grove by J.B. Priestley), combined with new writing (premieres of two controversial new plays, both inspired by true stories – So Great A Crime, the true story of a well loved national hero accused of paedophilia; and Facts, an intriguing murder mystery set in the West Bank, investigated by two detectives – one Palestinian and the other Israeli. We also continue our commitment to championing the 'other' languages of the British Isles on the London stage with English premieres of Somersaults, a stunning new play by Scots Gaelic playwright Iain Finlay Macleod, and Saer Doliau, a modern Welsh classic by Gwenlyn Parry.
The season opens with the English premiere of Iain Finlay Macleod’s Somersaults, directed by Russell Bolam, playing from 2 January–26 January 2013. On Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 January 2013 is the world premiere of So Great A Crime, written and directed by David Gooderson.
February sees the first London production for more than 80 years of London Wall by John Van Druten, directed by Tricia Thorns, playing 29 January–23 February 2013. It is accompanied on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 February 2013 by the English premiere of Gwenlyn Parry's modern Welsh-language classic Saer Doliau, performed in Welsh with English subtitles.
The season comes to a close with Canadian playwright Arthur Milner's provocative Facts, set in the Occupied Territories, directed by Caitlin McLeod, playing 26 February–23 March 2013, accompanied by the first London production in nearly 40 years of Laburnum Grove by J.B. Priestley, playing Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays on 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 March 2013.
