Written and directed by Don Scardino and produced by Allan McKeown, Edgar Lansbury, Clear Channel Entertainment and Jeff Sine, LENNON begins previews tonight, Thursday, July 7th at 8pm at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street). The opening date is set for Thursday, August 4th.
A musical biography, a concert, and a celebration all in one, LENNON takes us on a magical, mythical journey behind the greatest rock legacy and the boldest love story of our time - with words, images and some of the best pop songs ever written. From the Beatles to the Bed-Ins, from his musical partnership with Paul to his life partnership with Yoko, LENNON will bring you back to a time when music could change your soul... and one musician could change the world.
In addition to Scardino, the LENNON creative team includes Joe Malone (Choreography), Lon Hoyt (Music Supervisor), John Arnone (Scenic/Projection Design), Jane Greenwood (Costume Design), Natasha Katz (Lighting Design), Bobby Aitken (Sound Design), and Harold Wheeler (Orchestrator).
LENNON is produced by arrangement with Yoko Ono.
LENNON also includes two rare and unpublished songs by John Lennon that were given to the show by Yoko Ono. Two of the songs, "India, India" and "I Don't Want to Lose You" were never published, and exist only on private recordings.
The songs represent John Lennon at various stages in his life. "India, India" was written circa 1977 for a musical that John and Yoko were working on called "The Ballad of John and Yoko." The musical was never produced, and so the song went unrecorded. "I Don't Want to Lose You" is a Lennon song that was provided by Yoko Ono to complete "The Beatles Anthology" in 1990, but an electronic glitch made it impossible to include the song.
LENNON's playing schedule is Tuesday - Saturday at 8pm, Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm, and Sunday at 3pm. Tickets are available through Telecharge.com online or by phone at (212) 239-6200. Tickets prices range from $46.25 to $101.25.
