Sir Tim Rice spoke with Theater Talk about his writing motivations and his current and upcoming Broadway productions. In the clip below, Rice discusses why he writes more for women over men. Watch the video below!
Rice wrote the lyrics for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar, currently playing in a revival production on Broadway. The librettist also wrote the lyrics for Webber's Evita, which is in previews on Broadway.
EVITA, which plays at the Marquis Theatre, is directed by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Michael Grandage and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Rob Ashford. Starring Grammy-winning international pop icon Ricky Martin as Che, Olivier Award-winning Argentinean actress Elena Roger making her Broadway debut as Eva Perón-a role that earned her critical acclaim in the 2006 production in London's West End-and Tony Award-winner Michael Cerveris as Juan Perón, EVITA will open on April 5, 2012.
Tim Rice's other stage credits include Joseph and the Mazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Likes of Us, The Lion King, Aida, Beauty and the Beast, Blondel, Chess, Cricket, Heathcliff, King David, and Tycoon.
Theater Talk airs on PBS in New York City on Fridays at 12:30 AM and is syndicated on Public Television stations throughout the country.
