Cast members from David Cronenberg's new film Cosmopolis appeared at the project's 65th Cannes Film Festival photocall on May 25, 2012, then later walked the red carpet for the movie's premiere. The thriller stars Robert Pattinson, a 28-year-old billionaire asset manager who while riding across Manhattan in a limo to get a haircut, runs into a cast of characters that begin to turn his world upside down. This spring, the students in Site-Specific Directing at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) have staged theatre all over New York City: from St. Mark’s Church, to Tompkins Square Park, Central Park, and more. The directors concluded their class this past week by fully producing Chekhov on the Hudson - six short Chekhov adaptations near the Hudson River. Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe — The songbook of Grammy Award winners David Hidalgo and Louie Pérez of Los Lobos drives Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe, a multimedia play with music that takes its title from the group’s 1985 rocker “Evangeline.” Evangeline, a devoted daughter by day, a Hollywood go-go dancer by night. A journey of self discovery by a young Chicana, whose neighborhood roots and make-believe world collide when she experiences the West Side art scene and the music of the Sunset Strip, is set against the 1968 student walkouts in East L.A. and the fight for equal education and civil rights. Two performances have been added to Bootleg and About Productions' show, Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2, both at 7 pm. (more...)

Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz was honored and presented with with Desert Ensemble Theatre Company's inaugural Melpomai Award at When You Believe: A Conversation With and Tribute To Stephen Schwartz on May 19 in Palm Springs. The event was held in the Annenberg Theater at the Palm Springs Art Museum, and featured a conversation with Schwartz as well as performances of his stage and movie musical hits. Directed and moderated by Scott Logsdon (Les Miserables), the evening included performances from Tony nominee Andrea McArdle (Annie), Hunter Parrish (Broadway's Godspell revival and Showtime's "Weeds"), Kate Flannery (NBC's "The Office"), Pamla Vale Abramson, Melissa Batalles, Garrett Hoy, Ben Reece, Haviland Stillwell (Les Miserables and Fiddler on the Roof) and Laura L.Thomas. In honor of Fleet Week, Broadway’s own super hero Spider-Man, welcomed real American heroes from the U.S. Armed Services to New York City, sailing into New York Harbor aboard the USS Wasp in the “Parade of Ships” earlier today. Spider-Man was given a tour of the ship by the Admiral, took photos with sailors, and gave a salute to everyone onboard for their service. (more...)
