Finalists Announced for Bechdel Test Fest at TCA

The Bridge Initiative: Women in Theatre announces the finalists for The Bechdel Test Fest on September 9th & 10th at Tempe Center for the Arts. All work passes the Bechdel Test: Two female characters who talk to each other about something other than a man. After their national play contests in 2015 & 2016 were won by writers from New York and Los Angeles, The Bridge Initiative opened The Bechdel Test Fest only to Arizona writers and filmmakers to empower local artists. Selected plays and films will be announced by August 1st.

Finalist plays/screenplays (short and full-length) will be presented as live, rehearsed readings with post-show talkbacks. Scripts still in consideration are: Two Men Walk into a Bar (Monica Bauer), ILL (Lisbett Benge), Chosen Child (Monica Bauer), Welcome Home, Roberta Ducant (Larissa Brewington), Shades of Grey (Larissa Brewington), The Adventures of a Modern-Day Spinster (Linnea Liu Dakin & Brenda Jean Foley), The Family Silk (Cody Goulder), Three Conversations NOT about Men (Angelica Howland), All that Matters (Hira Ismail), A Woman on Stage (Ilana Lydia), Modern Slave (Elaine Romero), Salome, AZ (Laurelann Porter), 27 Signs (Laurelann Porter and Amy Funk), City of Ladies (Amanda Prahl), Nasty (Germaine Shames), re: Starlight Pass (Caelia Adams), Four Millimeters (Morgan Callahan), Cos Love (Josh Essenberg), Down for D (Jenny Cohen Sanchez), Giving Up the Ghost (Jennifer Jones Nesbit), Small Home (Alex Tuchi)

Chosen completed films will be screened together in a block of shorts. The finalists a Happys (Lee Quarrie), Patchwork Dreams (Lee Quarrie), When It's Time (Phil Ramirez), Mission Control (Parco Richardson), Aunties (Dineta Williams-Trigg).

Full schedule and ticketing for The Bechdel Test Festival will be announced in August.

The Bridge Initiative is an Arizona nonprofit working to identify and empower female artists in the Southwest region, with the aim of gender parity across all theatrical disciplines.
