As it was just announced last night, Kevin Adams won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Lighting Design of a Musical for Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch. As announced earlier this evening, the 2014 Regional Theatre Award went to New York's Signature Theatre. Each year, the Tony Awards Administration Committee presents a Tony Award to a regional theatre on the recommendation of the American Theatre Critics Association. Today, Cutting Edge Composers is thankful for its talented composers, especially Will Reynolds. His song 'I Knew a Boy' was sung by Spring Awakening's Blake Daniel at their concert at the Canal Room. When asked about his inspiration for writing this song, Will said 'The first lyric is 'We sneak by disaster-free courting catastrophe' which basically sums up my experience as a 20-something. 'I Knew a Boy' was a warning to myself when I realized I had let myself get a little too lost.'

'PATTI ISSUES' - the hit solo play written by Ben Rimalower - continues its hit New York run with Sunday night performances now through October 27, starring Broadway's Robin De Jesus, star of the film Camp and two-time Tony Award nominee for In the Heights and La Cage Aux Folles (also soon to be starring opposite Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Goldblum in Lincoln Center Theater's Domesticated, opening November 4.) Happy Birthday Tony Kushner! Kushner's best known work is Angels in America, a seven-hour epic about the AIDS epidemic in Reagan-era New York, which was later adapted into a miniseries for which Kushner wrote the screenplay. His other plays include Hydriotaphia, Slavs!: Thinking About the Longstanding Problems of Virtue and Happiness, A Bright Room Called Day, Homebody/Kabul, and the book for the musical Caroline, or Change. His new translation of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children was performed at the Delacorte Theater in the summer of 2006 starring Meryl Streep and directed by George C. Wolfe. Kushner has also adapted Brecht's The Good Person of Szechwan, Corneille's The Illusion, and S. Ansky's play The Dybbuk.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Lawrence Wright premieres his new play at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. It is a fictional play about the last days of legendary journalist Oriana Fallaci. Don't miss this sizzling new script, which is directed by Oskar Eustis, stars Concetta Tomei and Marjan Neshat, and features an incredible team of designers. The 65th world premiere presented by Berkeley Rep, Fallaci is currently in previews in the Roda Theatre and opens March 13, running through April 21. DreamWorks Pictures announced today that a behind-the-scenes special, "Lincoln: An American Journey," an exploration of the making of their highly commended film "Lincoln," debuts online today, Wednesday, January 16, on Apple iTunes at 12:00 p.m. (PST). The special will also be aired on television on Sunday, January 20, on KCBS at 9:00 a.m. (PST).
