A brand new production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic THE SOUND OF MUSIC launched its national tour at the Center Theatre Group / Ahmanson Theatre on September 30. Today in 1998, Footloose opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it ran for 709 performances. Footloose is a 1998 musical based on the 1984 film of the same name. The music is by Tom Snow (among others), the lyrics by Dean Pitchford (with additional lyrics by Kenny Loggins), and the book by Pitchford and Walter Bobbie. It starred Jeremy Kushnier as Ren McCormack, Stephen Lee Anderson as Reverend Shaw Moore, Jennifer Laura Thompson as Ariel Moore, Tom Plotkin as Willard Hewitt, and Dee Hoty as Vi Moore.

Academy Award-winning Hollywood musical 'Oklahoma!' returns to theaters nationwide for the first time in wide release in 60 years fully restored and with extended pre-show featurette featuring Okie native Kristin Chenoweth singing songs from the classic musical based on the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II stage production. The limited theatrical re-release, a partnership between BY Experience and Rodgers & Hammerstein, An Imagem Company, begins November 1st with more than 1,300 screenings nationwide. On last night's 2015 BET HIP HOP AWARDS, Black Thought and Questlove introduced cast members of Broadway's HAMILTON, , Renee Elise Goldsberry, Daveed Diggs and Lin-Manuel Miranda, as they put on their cypher masks for this year's Hip Hop competition.

The Pasadena Playhouse presents BREAKING THROUGH, a world premiere musical, with book by Kirsten Guenther, and music and lyrics by Cliff Downs and Katie Kahanovitz. The production is choreographed by Tyce Diorio, directed by Sheldon Epps and begins rehearsals this week. Today's #Ham4Ham performance reportedly blocked the entire street in front of the Richard Rodgers Theatre due to the multitude of spectators, according to Twitter reports. The performers at the special event this afternoon were HAMILTON's Ariana DeBose with special guest Ryann Redmond (BRING IT ON).
