Tony Award winning, Kennedy Center Honree and Broadway and concert legend Barbara Cook (The Music Man, She Loves Me, Candide, Sondheim on Sondheim), Tony Award-winner Steve Kazee (Once, 110 in the Shade, Spamalot), Tony, Oscar, Grammy and Emmy Award-winning orchestrator Jonathan Tunick (A Chorus Line, Follies, A Little Night Music, Blazing Saddles, Sweeney Todd) with vocalist Rebecca Faulkenberry (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, Rock Of Ages) all previewed their upcoming engagements at 54 Below earlier this week and BroadwayWorld's Randy Rainbow was there for the festivities. Winner of the 2013 Nightlife Legend Award cabaret and theatre legend Marilyn Maye, Broadway veteran and Tony Award winner and one of the stars of "Unsung Menken" Debbie Gravitte, and Tony Award Nominee, master humorist, illusionist and camp icon Charles Busch will play 54 Below in the coming weeks. Tony-winner Donna McKechnie will soon grace the stage of 54 Below in a brand new show: a musical déjà vu celebrating the scintillating 70?s in New York City - the heyday of Studio 54. McKechnie, best known the world over for creating the role of Cassie in A Chorus Line, is also well-known for her Broadway appearances in State Fair, On the Town, Company, Promises, Promises and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. For these five very special performances, Donna will salute this remarkable era via the music of Jim Croce, Peter Allen, Marvin Hamlisch, Billy Strayhorn, and Stephen Sondheim, with arrangements and music direction by John McDaniel. Yesterday, June 5, theatre legend Patti LuPone opened the new nightclub and restaurant, 54 Below, with a two-week engagement of a new act that will run through June 16. Before the star took the stage for the evening performance, she treated the press to a special sneak peek of the show and BroadwayWorld was there to talk to the star and capture her memorable performance!
