Last night The Public Theater celebrated the 50th Anniversary of HAIR, the American tribal love-rock musical that originally opened at The Public Theater at 425 Lafayette Street. The one-night-only benefit performance, directed by Diane Paulus, took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall.

After a smash-hit run at Central Park's Delacorte Theater, HAIR returned to Broadway for the first time in over 30 years. The story of a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era, HAIR is a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world. Its groundbreaking rock score paved the way for some of the greatest musicals of our time. Now, the 'Age of Aquarius' dawns again in this jubilant new production directed by Diane Paulus, with choreography by Karole Armitage. HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, and music by Galt MacDermot.

The New York premiere of the new musical Mama and Her Boys will feature brand new material contributed by some of musical theatre's most exciting up and coming composers. Sam Carner and Derek Gregor, Drew Overcash and Tony nominee Lucy Simon have all contributed material to the new Off-Broadway musical. New York City saw a different side of its typically conservative Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, when he donned extensions and hippie garb on stage with Broadway's cast of Hair at the Inner Circle fundraiser dinner on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at The Hilton Hotel. Yesterday, February 16, Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, and HAIR director Diane Paulus proudly introduced the new Tribe of America's favorite Tribal Love-Rock Musical to the press. The new Tribe will debut on Tuesday, March 9, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, as the current cast takes the production to the West End, opening April 14 at London's Gilegud Theatre.

Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, has announced the Broadway cast of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. The new Tribe will debut on Tuesday, March 9, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street, NYC). The cast performed 'Let The Sun Shine In' for the press.

The complete cast, all-star band and crew of HAIR (a total company of 50) traveled to Los Angeles to give a performance from the Tony Award-winning musical on NBC's 'The Tonight Show with Conan O' Brien' on their day off, Monday, July 13th.
