The Broadway-bound, world premiere engagement of SOUSATZKA, with book by Craig Lucas, music by David Shire, and lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr., based on the original novel 'Madame Sousatzka' by Bernice Rubens, is currently in previews in Toronto for an opening on March 23, 2017. BroadwayWorld has a first look at highlights from the show below!

Above the Elgin Theatre in Toronto on the 4th floor, magical things are happening. A company with 70 Tony Award nominations and 12 wins between them are gearing up to premiere a new musical, Sousatzka, based on the 1988 Shirley MacLaine film Madame Sousatzka. At the helm of the project, notorious theatre impresario Garth Drabinsky - who is making his comeback to 'artistic producing' following his convictions for fraud and forgery during his time as the head of Livent. Livent, of course, was once a division of Cineplex Odeon which produced the Sousatzka film before being bought out by Drabinsky and his then business partner Myron Gottlieb.

Keith Tomasek, a blogger from Ontario, Canada, was recently invited to an open rehearsal for Garth Drabinsky's Broadway-bound SOUSATZKA, where he captured some great backstage moments and previews from the event.

New York City Center presents Irving Berlin's ANNIE GET YOUR GUN: IN CONCERT starring Megan Hilty, who three years after starring in the Encores! production of GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, returns to City Center as Annie Oakley. Hilty is joined by a Tony-honored cast including Andy Karl, Chuck Cooper, Judy Kaye,Brad Oscar, and Ron Raines. Check out a sneak peek of the cast in action below!

Where have the 50 years gone? Academy Award® nominee Lesley Ann Warren - who was all of 18 years old when CBS-TV selected her as its CINDERELLA for the famed 1965 telecast of Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA - joined the cast of the current Broadway company on stage to perform a number from the musical at the conclusion of the September 23rd performance. Miss Warren's CINDERELLA was such a success for CBS that the musical aired once each year for 8 years until 1974. Miss Warren's appearance coincides with the 50th anniversary release of the telecast. Nothing Like a Dame: Conversations with the Great Women of Musical Theater, a new book by Eddie Shapiro featuring interviews with 20 female musical theatre stars, launched earlier this week at the headquarters of Oxford University Press at 198 Madison Avenue. Attendees got to meet some of the dames of Dames including Laura Benanti, Judy Kaye, Debra Monk, Donna McKechnie, Donna Murphy, Lillias White and Karen Ziemba. Tony nominated actress Jessie Mueller, currently starring in the Tony Award-winning musical comedy Nice Work If You Can Get It, appeared on NBC's 'Today' this morning, May 9th in the 10:00 a.m. hour as part of Kathie Lee and Hoda's 'Everyone Has a Story' segment. Mueller sang 'For You', co-written by Lee for 7-year-old AJ Kelm, who is battling a rare form of epilepsy, and his mother. Click below to watch! Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center announced today that the eighth annual edition of BROADWAY BACKWARDS will feature Academy Award winner and four-time Tony nominee Estelle Parsons (Nice Work If You Can Get It), two-time Tony Award winner Judy Kaye (Nice Work If You Can Get It) and two-time Emmy Award-winning comedian Bruce Vilanch.

The Outside the Box Musical Theater Group is casting a new musical.
