On May 21 of this year, BroadwayWorld threw a big party at Sony Hall in the heart of the theatre district, celebrating our 20th anniversary year online and in the community. It's an evening that I won't soon forget, and it all benefitted our longtime friends and collaborators at Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. And the venue itself, Sony Hall, couldn't have been nicer to us or more cooperative. 

Broadway's longest-running show ever, The Phantom of the Opera, took its final Broadway bow on April 16, 2023, after a 35-year run and BroadwayWorld was there for the red carpet. Check out highlights from the red carpet and curtain call in this video!

Frank Wildhorn and more than sixty members of the Wildhorn Musical family simultaneously world premiered a video featuring 53 singers from 12 countries, representing 17 of his musicals, performing the powerful, “Finding Wonderland,” from the Broadway musical, Wonderland on Friday, July 10th at 9am ET.

Broadway Records announced today the official release of An American Victory: A New Musical. The studio cast recording is now available for pre-order at http://www.broadwayrecords.com and Amazon, and will be available on iTunes and other retailers on April 22, 2016. Featuring an all-star cast headlined by Ashley Brown, Adam Jacobs, John Owen-Jones, Ramin Karimloo, Hugh Panaro and Aaron Tveit, this sweeping, epic album features twenty-one songs from the musical written by new composer Louis R. Bucalo. An American Victory is set in 1801, as America experiences brutal attacks on its ships by government sponsored pirates, whose extortion demands have grown to reach twenty percent of the entire government's budget. Oscar and Tony Award-winnerJoel Grey was awarded the first annual Humane Society of New York's Sandy Award, presented to an artist who has shown a fierce commitment, through action and advocacy, to the cause of animal rights.

Just last week, Des Moines Performing Arts, in partnership with the Des Moines Symphony, hosted a special guest with Iowa ties at the state's largest single-day concert event. The Yankee Doodle Pops concert on the Iowa State Capitol's West Terrace, welcomed three-time Tony Award®-winning composer Jason Robert Brown to conduct the orchestra in selections from Broadway's THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, featuring soloists Christiane Noll and Hugh Panaro. The musical, winner of the 2014 Tony Award for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations, is famously set in Iowa and will launch its national tour at the Des Moines Civic Center November 28 - December 5. Philadelphia's treasured musical tradition - The Philly POPS Christmas Spectacular - returns to Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for eight festive performances, now through December 20, 2014, led by Britain's celebrated Philadelphia-raised conductor David Charles Abell. Philadelphia native and Broadway vet Hugh Panaro, who will be making his POPS debut with the show, stopped by CBS 3 to chat about how he got his start onstage and his return home for the concerts. Laura Osnes, Christian Borle, Hugh Panaro, Taylor Richardson, John Bolton, Tituss Burgess, Rachel Bay Jones and Julia Murney all took part in Best in Shows, a star-studded cabaret evening to benefit the Humane Society of New York, last night at New World Stages. Hosted and with Music Direction by Seth Rudetsky, Best in Shows was presented by Dorothy and Bill Berloni. Hugh Panaro is ending his run as the Phantom in Broadway's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Before playing the phantom, Panaro played the role of Raoul, which he played for 900 performances. As the the Phantom, Panaro played 2227 performances. His fellow cast members did the math and found that he has appeared in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA for over 3000 performances.

Come look at the freaks! Last night at 54 Below, performers celebrated Bill Russell and Henry Krieger's Side Show in 'I Will Never Leave You: 54 Sings Side Show.' Directed by Russell, the special concert featured the talents of Lauren Kennedy, Norm Lewis, Jeff McCarthy, Hugh Panaro, Alice Ripley, The Skivvies and more. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you two performances from the Skivvies, including 'Come Look at the Freaks' and 'The Devil You Know' featuring original Side Show star Norm Lewis.

Norm Lewis makes his eagerly anticipated solo debut at American Songbook on Saturday night at 8:30pm. The show is SOLD OUT, and has been for weeks, and he has been in what he calls 'training' for the last few months. His musical director is Joseph Joubert (Motown, The Color Purple, Violet, Leap of Faith) and the evening is directed by Richard Jay-Alexander., for whom Norm did 'Javert' along with Hugh Panaro as 'Valjean' in last summer's blockbuster success of LES MISERABLES at The Muny in St. Louis.

BroadwayWorld.com is very excited to announce that we will be returning to Joe's Pub at the Public Theater in 2014, kicking off a year-long celebration of the community and our 10th anniversary with regularly scheduled concerts, live streams and special events in a BIG way. The concert series will launch on January 20, 2014 with BROADWAYWORLD VISITS OZ, directed by Richard Jay-Alexander and with music direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell.
