Today, April 18th, we celebrate the birthday of Broadway favorite, Gavin Creel.

The acclaimed new musical War Paint, starring two-time Tony Award winners Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole, played a sold-out run in Chicago this summer where it became the most successful show in Goodman Theatre's history. Now it comes to Broadway, beginning performances on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 - and officially opens on Thursday, April 6, 2017.

Gloria by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, is currently running through February 19, 2017, directed by Evan Cabnet, in its Chicago premiere at the Goodman Theatre, starring Kyle Beltran, Catherine Combs, Michael Crane, Jennifer Kim, Jeanine Serralles and Ryan Spahn. Two-time Tony Award winners Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole, returning to Broadway this spring in the acclaimed new musical War Paint, were featured guests at this week's New York Times 'War Paint Times Talk,' hosted at the Times Center. World-class magic meets a human story of love and loss in the world premiere of The Magic Play by Andrew Hinderaker at Goodman Theatre, October 21 - November 20. Critically acclaimed magician, illusion designer and actor Brett Schneider portrays a rising young magician who must take the stage just hours after his partner has left him. Though a good magician must always be in control of his show, The Magician's performance begins to unravel, illuminating his offstage life, which may be as fragile as a house of cards. Goodman Theatre presents Mary Zimmerman's revival of Wonderful Town, extending the show through October 23. Dennis Zacek and Grippo Stage Co., Inc., are presenting CONFESSIONS OF A P.I.M.P., written and performed by Broadway and Chicago star Andre De Shields, and directed by Samuel G. Roberson and Dennis Zacek. The cast also includes Kimberly Lawson and Donica Lynn.

The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 121 nominations in 24 categories for the 43rd Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2015, and March 31, 2016. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 148 productions offered by 67 Non-Equity producing organizations. The Jeff Committee recommended 65 of those shows (or 44%), making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Of the 65 Jeff Recommended productions, a record 53 (or 82%) received nominations, representing 32 theatre companies.

MCC THEATER will soon present Zachary Quinto in the New York premiere of Smokefall, by Noah Haidle and directed by Anne Kauffman, who directed The Nether for MCC last season to great acclaim. Quinto will also be joined by rising star Julia Garner, currently starring opposite Lily Tomlin in the Oscar-buzzed independent film Grandma; film and television star Robin Tunney and NYC theater veterans Jon DeVries and Brian Hutchison.
