At the height of the pandemic in 2020, when the world was locked away in lonely rooms with only old movies to watch at midnight, Errico suddenly returned to one of her life-long obsessions – noir! The genre is noted for its dark, disturbing sensibility of intractable fatalism that Paris existentialists discovered in American film during the 1940’s. Noir continues to run as a mesmerizing, mysterious current through modern movies and music, and Errico has embraced it in her own artistic endeavors.

Earlier this week, the York Theatre Company honored musical theater legends Richard Maltby, Jr. & David Shire with the 2021 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theater and Elisa Loti Stein with The York Theatre Company Founders' Award at the 29th Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala.

MNM Theatre Company has announced its upcoming production of Closer Than Ever, David Shire and Richard Maltby Jr.'s fascinating song cycle that explores the everyday struggles of love in the modern world.

Members of the Film & TV Music community, made up of composers, songwriters, music editors, music supervisors, studio executives and more, contributed their talents to SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES: A CELEBRATION FOR THE FILM & TV MUSIC COMMUNITY, an online benefit event for MusiCares® COVID-19 Relief Fund. 

In honor of Black Lives Matter, Liz Callaway sang a cover of David Shire's 1968 protest song 'The Morning After' in her home.

Just last spring, Sierra Boggess and Joshua Dela Cruz  led a staged reading of Richard Maltby, Jr., Karen Hartman, and David Shire's DANCERS AT A WATERFALL. Now, the two are reuniting to sing a song from the new musical. Boggess writes: 'This song expresses both lyrically and musically what is in our souls right now. Therefore, we wanted to debut this song in this way for all to hear too.'

Based on the smash-hit movie starring Tom Hanks, BIG The Musical is only on for three more weeks at the Dominion Theatre, closing on 2 November 2019. Below, watch as Jay McGuiness (Josh Baskin) and Kimberley Walsh (Susan Lawrence) sing 'We're Gonna Be Fine'.

Based on the smash-hit movie starring Tom Hanks, BIG The Musical makes its West End premiere at the Dominion Theatre for a strictly limited eight-week season from 10 September to 2 November 2019, with a Gala Night in aid of Make-A-Wish on Tuesday 17 September.

Garth Drabinsky's SOUSATZKA is currently thrilling Toronto audiences and is steeped in Broadway-bound buzz. The Broadway-bound, world premiere engagement of SOUSATZKA, with book by Craig Lucas, music by David Shire, and lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr., based on the original novel 'Madame Sousatzka' by Bernice Rubens, opens tonight in Toronto. Directed by Adrian Noble and choreographed by Graciela Daniele, the production stars Victoria Clark, Montego Glover, Judy Kaye and Jordan Barrow.

Above the Elgin Theatre in Toronto on the 4th floor, magical things are happening. A company with 70 Tony Award nominations and 12 wins between them are gearing up to premiere a new musical, Sousatzka, based on the 1988 Shirley MacLaine film Madame Sousatzka. At the helm of the project, notorious theatre impresario Garth Drabinsky - who is making his comeback to 'artistic producing' following his convictions for fraud and forgery during his time as the head of Livent. Livent, of course, was once a division of Cineplex Odeon which produced the Sousatzka film before being bought out by Drabinsky and his then business partner Myron Gottlieb.

Keith Tomasek, a blogger from Ontario, Canada, was recently invited to an open rehearsal for Garth Drabinsky's Broadway-bound SOUSATZKA, where he captured some great backstage moments and previews from the event.

Today in 1983, Baby opened at the Ethel barrymore Theatre, where it ran for 241 performances. Baby is a musical with a book by Sybille Pearson, based on a story developed with Susan Yankowitz, music by David Shire, and lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr.. It concerns the reactions of three couples each expecting a child. Lizzie and Danny are university juniors who have just moved in together. Athletic Pam and her husband, Nick, a sports instructor, have had some trouble conceiving. Arlene, already the mother of three grown daughters, is unsure of what to do, contemplating abortion while her husband Alan is thrilled with the thought of a new baby. Throughout the show, these characters experience the emotional stresses and triumphs, the desperate lows and the comic highs, that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby.

The 5th Avenue Theatre presents the sweeping new musical, Waterfall, featuring Laura Griffith (Broadway: Sweet Smell of Success, The Light in the Piazza), Thom Sesma (Broadway: The Times They are A-Changin', Man of La Mancha), J. Elaine Marcos (Broadway: Annie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert), and Thai pop superstar Bie Sukrit. The World Premiere Musical WATERFALL is set in Bangkok and Tokyo between the turbulent years of 1933 and 1939, as a monarchy falls in Thailand and Japan is on the brink of war.  A young Thai student named Noppon (Thai superstar Bie Sukrit) falls in love with Katherine (Emily Padgett, 2014 Broadway Revival of Side Show), the American wife of a Thai diplomat, and the story of their forbidden love parallels history as the new democracy of Siam moves into the vortex of Japan prior to WWII. With a gloriously romantic score from Tony Award-winner Richard Maltby Jr. (Miss Saigon) and Academy Award-winner David Shire,WATERFALL is a modern love story of timeless scale.
