Starz brought Miami Beach to Tar Beach with a day-long consumer event featuring 'summer fun' vintage beach wear fashion shows (50s & 60s period designs, bikinis and one pieces), styled by Emmy Award winning costume designer, Carol Ramsey showcasing and inspired by the period series that premieres Friday, June 14th. Fans had a chance to view a classic 1959 convertible, take part in beach blanket bingo and other fun in the sun activities and be served by some of the most handsome cabana boys ever to take Manhattan. The Board of Directors of Labyrinth Theater Company, the award-winning, downtown ensemble, announced today that Mimi O'Donnell, who has served as Co-Artistic Director with Stephen Adly Guirgis and Yul Vazquez since 2009, will continue to lead the Company as its sole Artistic Director beginning with the 2013-14 Season. Starz announced today that their 1950's Miami-based drama, 'Magic City' will return with an all new season on Friday, June 14th at 9pm ET/PT, one week following the finale of the Starz Original series 'Da Vinci's Demons' on Friday, June 7th. The Company Members of Labyrinth Theater Company, the award-winning, downtown ensemble, have announced today casting for its upcoming NEWYORKNEWYORK Festival Marathon Weekend, which will feature forty-eight hours of free, round-the-clock readings of plays centered around New York themes - iconic playwrights, vibrant cultures, urban ideals, and more.
Over 180 actors will participate in the marathon weekend of free play readings including: Max Casella, Sarita Chowdhury, Liza Colon-Zayas, Kieran Culkin, Tony Danza, John Doman, Tate Donovan, Halley Feiffer, Michael Kelly, Elizabeth Kemp, Josh Hamilton, Sarah Nina Hayon, Florencia Lozano, Julia Murney, Tony Plana, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Julia Stiles, Marlo Thomas, and Yul Vazquez. The marathon will feature classic works by over twenty esteemed New York playwrights, including Maria Irene Fornes, Lorraine Hansberry, David Henry Hwang, Kenneth Lonnergan, Arthur Miller, Clifford Odets, Miguel Pinero, and more. The Motherf***er with the Hat - The original Broadway cast, including Chris Rock; Tony nominees Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Yul Vazquez; and Annabella Sciorra, reunites when L.A. Theatre Works presents Stephen Adly Guirgis' high-octane, Tony-nominated, verbal cage match about love, fidelity and misplaced haberdashery. Jackie and Veronica have been in love since the eighth grade. Nothing can come between them-except a hat. All performances will be recorded, without sets or costumes, to air on L.A. Rap Icon Rick Ross Joins STARZ's MAGIC CITY

'Magic City' has added another famous face to its all-star lineup. Season two of the critically acclaimed series will feature legendary rapper Rick Ross as 'Butterball,' the proprietor of an illegal Cuban/American gambling house in Miami known as a 'bolita,' (the numbers racket). There are numerous bolitas in the Miami area and not surprisingly, Ben 'the Butcher' Diamond (Golden Globe(R) nominee for Best Supporting Actor, Danny Huston) is getting a cut from the illicit operations. A new date has not yet been selected but is expected to be announced in the coming days. Labyrinth Theater Company's annual star-studded fundraising event remains one of the most popular 'happenings' of the year in New York City and was originally scheduled for Monday, November 5th at Capitale. The LabRats Theater Company presents its 2012-2013 Season. The third full season begins tonight, October 6th with the R.A.W. Reading Series and the presentation of Lindsay Joy-Murphy's Rise, Fall, directed by Padraic Lillis and continues October 20th with Lawrence Dial's Carroll Gardens, directed by Tyne Rafaeli, from this series the company will choose LabRats' full production, which will be presented February 28th-March 17th at The Access Theatre Gallery Space in Lower Manhattan. The season concludes May 25th, with Experiment Sessions, a free day of works in progress. (more...)
