This list includes six Wolf Trap headlining debuts in Demi Lovato, Hot Chelle Rae, Ingrid Michaelson, Joe Walsh, Matisyahu and Dirty Heads, and second time headlining performances from Counting Crows, Wilco, and Train. Long Beach Opera (LBO) presents Argentine composer Oswaldo Golijov and librettist David Henry HwangÂ’s powerful Grammy Award-winning opera on May 20 and May 26, 2012 at the Terrace Theater in Long Beach, CA. Based on the life of famous writer Federico Garcia Lorca and his murder by Fascists during the Spanish Civil War, Ainadamar celebrates LorcaÂ’s fight for artistic, political and personal freedom. Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announces the cast and creative team for the Alley TheatreÂ’s production of the Conor McPhersonÂ’s THE SEAFARER. The Seafarer, by Conor McPherson and directed by Gregory Boyd, begins previews Friday April 6, opens Wednesday April 11 and runs through Sunday, April 29, 2012 on the Hubbard Stage. George Winston, the celebrated “rural folk” pianist, returns to The Barns to perform selections from his latest release, Love Will Come – The Music of Vince Guaraldi, Vol. 2, which features originals by the late jazz pianist. Guaraldi is best known for composing and arranging the music featured in animated adaptations of the Peanuts® comic strips. In addition to Guaraldi, Winston has been hard at work on interpreting some of his favorite artists’ songs for solo piano—including the Doors, Frank Zappa, Randy Newman, Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield, Laura Nyro, Al Kooper, Dr. John, Taj Mahal, and Philip Aaberg—several of which he has prepared for solo concert dates. Winners of Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition Announced

The Dallas Opera GuildÂ’s 24th Annual Vocal Competition for young opera singers ended on a high-note last evening when ten outstanding finalists (with Texas connections) were awarded a total of $20,000 in prize monies. It is only the second time this spring musical event has graced the stage of the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in the Arts District. (more...)
