Samuel Shem and Janet Surrey have announced casting for the new NYC production of their play Bill W. and Dr. Bob, about the founding of AA, which begins July 8 at the Soho Playhouse. Seth Gordon (Associate Artistic Director, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis; Producer/Director Primary Stages, NYC; director of the acclaimed production of Bill W. and Dr. Bob at the Cleveland Play House in 2010) will direct an ensemble of actors who have garnered acclaim on and off Broadway. Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) (Jed Bernstein, Producing Director) has announced the complete casting for the world premiere of Mothers and Sons, a new play by four-time Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally. Last seen at Bucks County in Love Letters opposite James Earl Jones, Emmy and Tony Award-winner Tyne Daly is set to star in the production joined by Tony Award-nominees Manoel Felciano and Bobby Steggert, with direction by Tony Award-nominee Sheryl Kaller. The plot: self-made vindictive wealthy person, inhibited daughter, handsome suitor who may be after her money, parent attempts to torpedo the relationship. Sound familiar? It should. That's basically the storyline of the Henry James novella WASHINGTON SQUARE and the play and film, THE HEIRESS. It's also the basic description of Victoria Stewart's RICH GIRL which takes from the past, but the play which is opening Cleveland Play House's 2013 NEW. THEATRE. FESTIVAL., adds comedy, infuses a little intrigue, and takes a 21st century twist. (more...)

BILL W. AND DR. BOB Begins 7/8 at the Soho Playhouse

Theater critics worldwide have praised Bill W. and Dr. Bob, Samuel Shem and Janet Surrey's play about the founding of AA, as an expertly told, universally compelling story about the triumph of the human spirit. The show continues to break box office records and brings a whole new community into the theater-the broad diversity of people in recovery, and their families and friends. After being mounted more than 100 times in 35 states as well as Australia, Canada and England, the play comes to New York City's 199-seat Soho Playhouse (200 Vandam Street), beginning July 8, in a new production directed by Seth Gordon (Associate Artistic Director, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis; Producer/Director Primary Stages, NYC; director of the acclaimed production of Bill W. and Dr. Bob at the Cleveland Play House in 2010).
