Books for Kids Kicks Off Children's Book Week with Scholastic's READ EVERY DAY, 5/6

Shawna Hamilton Doster, Executive Director, Books for Kids, will host a lively family event with a stellar line-up of entertainers, authors and hands-on activities to raise funds and awareness for the national non-profit Books for Kids, which creates libraries and literacy programs for at-risk pre-school children in low-income neighborhoods. The event is being held at the world headquarters of Scholastic Inc., Scholastic Soho, the worldÂ’s largest publisher and distributor of childrenÂ’s books and a leader in educational technology and services and childrenÂ’s media, on May 6, 2012 from 1 to 4 p.m., and kicks off Children's Book Week. Syfy Announces Expansion of Unscripted Programming Department

BWW Interviews: George Chakiris - Fifty Years After WEST SIDE STORY

To those who've seen the Oscar-winning screen adaptation of WEST SIDE STORY, the recollections of George Chakiris' performance as Bernardo remain vivid. His acting is top notch, his singing is superb and his dancing comes darn close to burning up the celluloid it is preserved on. He was awarded an Oscar as "Best Supporting Actor" for his work on that film and now, fifty years later, he is about to imprint his handprints and signature outside of the famed Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Sometimes the film industry can be a little slow on the uptake, won't you agree?

Under the Streetlamp, one of America's newest vocal groups starring the recent stars of the Chicago and Los Angeles productions of "Jersey Boys," will return to Elgin Community College (ECC) Arts Center Nov. 12 - 13, 2011. This group has sold out numerous performances at ECC, as well as throughout the Chicago area. A recent taping of their live concert performance is set to be nationally broadcast on PBS stations across the nation. All three performances at ECC Arts Center will also feature the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra. ( more...)
