MY LIFE RUINED BY SEX to be Displayed at the Museum of Sex, 4/4

From rising art star to recluse, the life and work of self-taught printmaker and sculptor William Kent in many respects embodied the title of his semi-autobiographical 1964 print, "My Life Ruined By Sex." This exhibition, baring the same title, explores William Kent's (1919-2012) calamitous life through his art and personal ephemera, highlighting his skill and creativity as well as the paradoxes that drove him, bringing his erotically charged work back to New York City for the first time in nearly fifty years. The Metropolitan Opera's 2013-14 season will feature many of the world's greatest singers, conductors, and theater artists in 26 operas, including six new productions, of a varied repertory that ranges from the Baroque era to the 21st century. Met Music Director James Levine will return to the Met podium for the first time in two years, conducting three operas with which he has long been associated: a new production of Verdi's final masterpiece Falstaff, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Berg's Wozzeck. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi will be conducting two operas in the 2013-14 season, Rossini's La Cenerentola and Puccini's Madama Butterfly. (more...)

From November 9, 2012 through January 13, 2013, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum presents Gabriel Orozco: Asterisms, a two-part sculptural and photographic installation by the Mexican-born artist comprising thousands of items of detritus he gathered at two sites-a playing field near his home in New York and a protected coastal biosphere in Baja California Sur, Mexico, which is also the repository for flows of industrial and commercial waste from across the Pacific Ocean. Artist Danh Vo Wins Hugo Boss Prize 2012

The Hugo Boss Prize 2012 has been awarded to Danh Vo, announced Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation, and Claus-Dietrich Lahrs, Chairman and CEO, HUGO BOSS AG. Vo is the ninth artist to receive the biennial honor that was established in 1996 to recognize significant achievement in contemporary art. The prize carries an award of $100,000 and is administered by the Guggenheim Foundation. An exhibition of Vo's work will be on view at the Guggenheim Museum in spring 2013. (more...)
