BWW Reviews: The Black Rep's Funkadelic Production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by Chris Gibson - Feb 23, 2012
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM is one of the few Shakespearean plays that's considered totally original, not owing its story to any other source other than the Bard's imagination. It's a delightful romantic comedy with fun, supernatural elements, and unlike his many tragedies and histories, nobody dies. In the hands of The Black Rep, it's been transformed into an absolutely funkadelic experience. Director Chris Anthony has set this version in the 1970's, and as such, it's filled with wildly colored clothing from that period, and features snippets of dialog and music anyone who grew up in that era will recognize. Grammy Award-winning clarinetist Richard Stoltzman returns to Central Florida to perform a program of American music with members of the Bach Festival Orchestra on November 13, 2011. Stoltzman performed to sold-out crowds during the 75th Anniversary Festival in February 2010, and the Society is pleased to bring back this tremendous artist to perform once again for Central Florida audiences. Polish Canadian pianist Daniel Wnukowski (vnoo-KOV-skee) is performing a homecoming recital on Friday, February 4 at Glenn Gould Studio, 8 PM. A highly gifted artist who left Ontario at age 15 to pursue studies in Europe and the US, Mr. Wnukowski will perform a concert entitled 'Heaven and Hell: A Year of Liszt'. The repertoire features demonic and blissful works of Franz Liszt as well as the lyrical and dramatic works of Polish composers Chopin and Szymanowski. (more...)

Festival of New American Musicals 2010 Runs 5/16-8/21 by BWW News Desk - May 10, 2010
The 2010 Festival of New American Musicals, a three month musical theatre festival, will be held May 16 through August 21 2010, throughout Southern California. Marcia Seligson, Bob Klein, and Linda Shusett are the Executive Producers of the annual festival, now in its third year. (more...)
