Audra McDonald, Alan Cumming and More Honored with 2013 MADE IN NY Awards; KINKY BOOTS Performs

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Mayor's Office of Media & Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver today presented the eighth annual 'Made in NY' Awards, honoring individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the City's entertainment and digital media industries. The 2013 'Made in NY' honorees include: Tony and Olivier Award-winning actor Alan Cumming; 'Project Runway' host and executive producer Heidi Klum; two time Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee; five time Tony Award-winning singer and actress Audra McDonald; President of HBO Documentary Films Sheila Nevins; NYC-based blogging platform and social networking website Tumblr; and Harvey and Bob Weinstein, founders of The Weinstein Company and Miramax Films. This year's 'Made in NY' Mayor's Award for Lifetime Achievement was presented to Emmy Award-winning television host and broadcast journalist Barbara Walters. The awards took place at Gracie Mansion and featured a special performance by the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots introduced by Harvey Fierstein. (more...)

UPDATE: MTV Adapting SCREAM for the Small Screen, Wes Craven May Direct Pilot

The network has put into a production a pilot based upon the hit horror franchise, featuring the now-iconic slasher modeled after the infamous Edvard Munch painting. MTV is partnering with Dimension Films, the Production Company behind the films, for the television project. The intent is to reinvent the successful horror comedy franchise that spawned three sequels and unleashed 'Ghostface' to a legion of unsuspecting fans. (more...)

The Hollywood Networking Breakfast (HNB) was founded on the Paramount Studios Lot in 1993 by Sandra Lord, as a means to providing opportunities for industry professionals and emerging talent. Paramount Studios served as the event's home base for almost 12 years. Some of the most respected individuals, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, have offered patrons insight and advice. Backstage named the HNB "The Best Networking Event in L.A." in its "Best of LA" issue, a title that has continued to hold true. For the last 19 years the event has hosted Academy, Golden Globe, Peabody and Emmy Award winners and nominees, as well as top Hollywood Studio Heads and Production Company Presidents. Riedel & Rivka Dance Companies Share the Stage at Ailey, 3/7-3/9

Both the Riedel Dance Theater and Ariel Rivka Dance companies today announced the upcoming world premieres of their new, narrative works - In Violent Circles (Rite of Spring) and Vashti, respectively. These two emerging contemporary ensembles will share the stage for three consecutive nights March 7 - 9, 2013, at the Ailey Citigroup Theatre (NYC). Both choreographers, Jonathan Riedel and Ariel Grossman, are true storytellers who draw upon the emotional power of drama, movement and music to bring stories to life through dance. Both pieces feature live, on-stage musical performances of original scores/arrangements by two of today's top contemporary composer/performers. (more...)

Attending the 13th Annual Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) Awards presented by Delta Air Lines this Monday, October 8, 2012 will be SAG-AFTRA elected leadership reps that include national SAG-AFTRA Co- President, Roberta Reardon and national SAG-AFTRA Co-Treasurer and Co-Secretary, Amy Aquino. Also joining the celebration will be Tony Plana, Tony Shalhoub, Brooke Adams and CNN's Jane Vélez-Mitchell. A special tribute to the late Lupe Ontiveros will be given by Latin Heat Editor and co-host of 'HOLA L.A.' Bel Hernández.
