Glimmerglass Festival Celebrates Young Artists with GL!MMERATA Tonight

The Glimmerglass Festival, the Central New York summer opera company, will celebrate its Young Artists and Summer Internship programs at GL!MMERATA, its 2013 Spring Gala, tonight, April 10 at The Metropolitan Club in Manhattan. The 2013 season marks the 25th anniversary of the company's Young Artists Program, the acclaimed apprenticeship for emerging singers. (more...)

The Metropolitan Opera's 2013-14 season will feature many of the world's greatest singers, conductors, and theater artists in 26 operas, including six new productions, of a varied repertory that ranges from the Baroque era to the 21st century. Met Music Director James Levine will return to the Met podium for the first time in two years, conducting three operas with which he has long been associated: a new production of Verdi's final masterpiece Falstaff, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Berg's Wozzeck. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi will be conducting two operas in the 2013-14 season, Rossini's La Cenerentola and Puccini's Madama Butterfly. (more...)

Dwayne Croft and Ildar Abdrazakov Play 'Escamillo' in The Met's CARMEN, Feb-March 2013

Casting is announced for the role of Escamillo for this season's remaining performances of Carmen. DWayne Croft will sing the role tonight, February 20 and February 26, and March 1, and Ildar Abdrazakov will sing the role on February 23 matinee, a performance that will be broadcast around the world over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera Radio Network. In this evening's performance of Bizet's Carmen, Hei-Kyung Hong sang Micaela, replacing Ekaterina Scherbachenko, who is ill. Casting is also announced for the role of Escamillo for this season's remaining performances of Carmen. Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change Advisory for February 9, 13, and 16

DWayne Croft will sing the role of Escamillo in Bizet's Carmen on February 9, 13, and 16, replacing Teddy Tahu Rhodes, who determined in rehearsals that the role was no longer suitable for his voice. Casting for the performances on February 20, 23 matinee, 26, and March 1 will be announced at a later date. (more...)

Tenor Roberto Alagna sings the title role of Andrea Chénier, one of opera's most dramatic lyric-tenor roles, for the first time, with soprano Kristin Lewis as Maddalena di Coigny, baritone George Petean as Carlo Gérard, with a special appearance by mezzo soprano Rosalind Elias as Madelon. Les Troyens will be simulcast live on the Peterborough Players big screen on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at noon. This is the 7th production in The Met: Live in HD's 2012-13 season. Tenor Marcello Giordani has decided to withdraw from the remaining four performances of Berlioz's Les Troyens, permanently retiring the role of Aeneas from his repertory. In his place, American tenor Bryan Hymel will make his Met debut, singing the role tonight, December 26, December 29 matinee, January 1, and January 5 matinee (the date of the global HD transmission).
